I’m no expert but it seems there may have been some differences between the chrome and the black ones.

I was born in 76, and wasn’t raised around off road stuff even though there’s a dune area near the family ranch.

I don’t recall ever seeing any of the bolt together Warn in chrome, and I don’t recall seeing any black ones that are solid. Maybe someone with a old catalog can tell us.

I misspoke also, mine does indeed have a the W stamped in relief in the winch plate.

I've sold and owned both designs of the Warn winch bumper. I actually have 2 of the chrome bolt together and one of the fully welded squared corner bumpers at the moment. It was sometime in the late 80's that they discontinued the heavier all welded style and went to the rounded corner bolt together style.

I figured somebody would know. I wanted a solid one but these days beggars can’t be choosers. I’m lucky to have the small amount of period accessories I have. I have seen that warn made brush guard that bolted to the classic but I’ve never found one for sale.

I thought about it. I don't think there's room. It's a Superwinch EXP with the integrated housing, etc. I think it's too tall (it'll hit the grill, and I'm not cutting sheet metal) and I also don't think I'd be able to reach the engagement lever- it doesn't seem to be clockable like older or cheaper (harbor freight) winches.

Well my experience has been that any winch 10k or above needs the feet forward or it will shear the bolts off, not hypothetically, it happened to everyone in our club when the winch was used in a slope.

I think alot of the manufacturers recommend mounting feet forward on 10k and above winches. I fit a Warn xd9000i winch on my truck that had a DIY4x bumper, feet forward. I had to trim a little bit of the radiator support. Grill was untouched. But I see what you are saying about clocking the engagement lever. I clocked mine, but it was a Warn. My brother has a 15k warn on his truck. I think that has 6 mounting points. 4 are feet down and 2 are feet forward

That's how my warn 12k was.
