I got this bumper from my friends dad, said it came off an 83 blazer?

I took mine off, and it doesn't look right. I cant get more than one hole to line up, and when it sits as far back as the bracket allow, ( against body mounts) it seems like it still sticks out too far.

Suggestions? Anybody have pictures of how theirs mounts up?

I am on a gov computer so cant see your pics but i did have a similar situation earlier this year trying to mount a brush guard from a 70's truck to my '83. I ended up cutting off the existing brackets and fabbing some new ones out of 3/8 steel. I tried really hard to use what was provided but in the end it was actually easier to just make custom brackets.

I'm not sure when the change took place but the earlier bumpers bolted directly to the frame and at some point GM decided to bolt the bumper to a bracket that bolted to the frame. This might be your issue.

I have a 77 and an 84, I tried to put it on the 77 and it was worse...the bumper stuck out a full 3.5 inches from the body!:eek1:

I'm beginning to think that this isn't the correct bumper, and I may end up making my own brackets.

Which would be wiser if I did so, Weld the new mount tabs onto the bumper, or bolt them on?

This is correct. Just swapped an 81+ Warn classic bumper onto my 80 with some drilling. Two holes (bottom back) lined up but had to be opened for the 1/2" bolts. The other two were just drilled in once I got the alignment where I wanted it.
