well I am probaly gonna be setting my truck up for mild offroad. my friend says that tires and locker will get ya into the mess but a winch will get ya out. so i am probaly gonna get a 10,000lbs winch. well know I am gonna need new bumpers so that they match. I am not really sure what I wanna do. what ever I do is gonna be custom, beacause I dont have the cash for a bumper from like blazen offroad or diy4x, ect(dont get me wrong they look like great bumpers but lack of cash).so the question for you guys Tube Bumpers, some soild steel bumper, or a peice of C channel. I am looking for a hidden winch setup but cant find one. or the other opion build a stritly offroad toyota

anyway pics of my truck.

how strong is the top one?

Pauly383, I like the Bumpers you got on your truck

I like those:waytogo: .

when did you build those because last time i saw any build thing is when you got the new tire

I didn't make it my friend did as a thank you for giving him my old Cadillac.

Its the strongest bumper i have ever seen I have even pulled out tree stumps with it and no bend or anything.

If you can build something akin to a Warn Classic bumper and ya put an 8274 in it, that keep a classic look to it. IIRC, you had been posting about kinda reto-modding your K5 a while back?

IMO the Warn bumpers are kinda Bulky. and for some reason i have always like the winches out in the open

I thing he used 5/16 steel 2x6 and closed off the ends with the scrap from the tapered cuts.

He has not made me a rear yet he has been busy but will be making me one soon ill let you know how that goes.

that second pic is dontoe's truck and his winch is receiver mounted, so its the stock front bumper but he added a receiver hitch to the front. I think there is a writeup in the tech section

i am talking more off the truck with the pushbar and winch.

i like the setup dontoe has i might do that so i can use the winch on the rear to.

hidden winch

i dunno about the later models but on my 1st gen there is space behind the bumper... All you need is a sheet of 1/4 steel big enough for a winch and to span the distance form frame rail to frame rail. install inside of the C channels on the bottom. and cut a hole in the stock bumper to run the line through and mount your fair lead to the out side. run all the electrical connections and winch away

that is the way I would go....

I put a piece of C channel... 35(L) x 12(W) x 2(H) between my frame rails in the back of my truck.. cut the double tube bumper and put a roller fairlead in it.... then some day when I get a winch for the front... will do the same...

C channel cost me $40 from local steel yard and $5 in grade 8 bolts and nuts...

why hasnt any one made a sticky with pictures of winch bumpers. i know ive seen alot of threads about this stuff.

by the way any one else have any pics they would like to post.

I think its gonna be tube bumpers, front if i dont make one i will get one from DIY4X, know i need some ideas for the rear
