Kain submitted a new Build:

Winch install thread

I am prepping the plate to install the winch and see where I can mount the control box.
What do you guys think of this? There is enough room to mount it in front of the winch and it will be protected by the bumper and the steel plate I'm mounting it on.

I'm starting today so saturday my buddy and I can get this thing into place before it hits 100 plus.
and thats his day off

it will have to go behind the radiator on the crossmember there. I had to get bearings and seal for my rear axle. those and the new fluid cost me 70 bucks. that was going to be longer leads. i get a chance ill make it go on the fender.

i have some diamond plate thats is aluminum ill use till i can replace it. its better than nothing

yeah, the leads kinda predict where it goes unless you feel like making your own
mine just sits on top of the winch in the A-Bomb cradle, not well protected but it's been fine so far

i plan on making longer ones in the future, just cant afford it right know

well went to my buds house and tried to drill holes in this plate and burnt 2 bits. before the first hole. and these bits are not cheap. and as you can see this is a mill type machine. i dont have a torch to cut holes in it so ill have to get me a different piece of steel. not happy about that. :frown1:

he said whatever it is its harder than the dies he uses to clamp the materials in

AH plate or harder. Save it for something that needs protection via weld on

Going to try and torch it if that dont work ill order something of the internet

friend of mine brought me some steel plate that will work and we will reinforce in the morning.
And i got my warn hawse fairlead in today. don't see why so many people complained.
I decided to put it between the frame rails.I like how it wil be protected there. And it fits without cutting the rad suport. going to weld up the slots i cut to get it to fit and weld some ribs with angle iron to the bottom of the plate for strength in the morning and finish the install.

well I have to finish the fairlead hole and ill have to buy longer leads they were not long enough to put where i wanted to but it is pretty well protected. ill get some more pics tomorrow. i am one tired dude.but i painted it flat black before putting the winch in and we welded the plate in place, and the winch in place. For extra bracing we welded on a piece of angle iron to the bottom of the plate. I will take more pics when i have it all done.

Ps by we i mean my friend Carey did the welding he is better at it than me.My welding ability is undiscovered.
