Hey guys I'm trying to help a friend install his winch over the phone. It is an older Ramsey with an external canister type solenoid. I've attached a diagram of how I figure it should be wired. What do you guys think?

The other question I have is, the poles on the winch itself aren't marked positive or negative. Do you think it matters?

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

If your talking about the poles on the actual motor, yes it does. The positive is isolated from grounding on the case.

I'm not familier with that setup. The only type electric winch I have had has 4 solenoids. Does this winch go in and out or just in?

I'm not sure if I understand. When you say poles on the motor do you mean the terminals on the side of the winch?

Also unlike many of the models I found on the net, this winch doesn't have a separate grounding point.

The cables should come out of the relay and go directly to the (winch) motor. here are a couple of pics I hijacked of an motor.

Heck I don't know, I never even used it when it was on my truck. I didn't even realize there were winches that only spooled in! I'll have to get the model number off of him. I know it is a 8000 lb that's it.

ttt

Anyone? Does that diagram make any sense? Anyone with an older model Ramsey with some insight?
