I want it to sit more level, but that is the angle of the frame rails. Any ideas.....?? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Not really a big deal, but if it sat level I could move it back a couple more inches. Any help would be great. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Loooks good, do you want it to just sit level or sit level and move it back? If you just want it to sit level, heat it up and bend it, then re-inforce around the bend /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

How thick is that plate?

You can move it back as far as the radiator if you don't mind cutting your grill out... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

It's 1/4" and I really don't want to cut up my nice grille yet. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

should be OK once you brace the sides / front. I built mine out of 3/8's, but not sure if I needed to go quite that stout... especially w/ the price of steel now a days!

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Warn said 1/4" is what they reccomend. So I bought 1/4". I am gonna brace it up as good as possible.

As far as making it level any more ideas? I thought maybe some spring shims?? Would that be safe? If I welded a shim to the plate on each side and drilled the holes through it then bolted it all up it would probably sit flat. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Come on I know somebody has a simple idea out there that will work. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Well you WILL want it moved closer to the radiator eventually. Maybe move the plate so it bolts to the bottom of the frame and some supports that bolt to the side of the frame as well. That would bring it down lower and allow you to move it back without cutting the grill as much. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I have some various pics of mine: http://community.webshots.com/album/78617546cuJLnH

Its not the prettiest or the the best, obut so far it works pretty good and hasn't failed. I don't have an upright winch like yours, so I didn't hve to cut out the grill to fit mine between the frame rails. It is also very theft resistant, I say that cause it was a mother to get in /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

That was my first plan, but the bottom frame rails just aren't as flat as the top. Also there are all the rivits for the spring hangers and body mounts in the way. And the winch is pretty tall /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

If you're not gonna run a stock bumper you could drop it to the bottom of the rails. Make like a box that bolts to the outside of the frame rails where the bumper caps were. I really don't know since I don't have a winch. I would think that I want it pulling from the center of the frame to help distribute the stress and pull on the frame. I know thats alot of money but I like'em somewhat concelled/ hidden torque. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Mount it between the framerails and feed the cable through the bumper.
Like this.

Mines mounted to a large "C" channel via 4 bolts.

It's mounted to the frame via thes two mounting tabs that are bolted to the frame.

Then the winch get's mounted to those tabs.

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Can you mount some angle iron on the inside of the frame and then set the plate on top of the other leg of the angle iron? I forget what my frame looks like in there.

I stacked washers when I mounted my front receiver but it's connected to both the top and bottom of the C-channel of the frame. I don't think I'd stack washers with quarter inch plate since quarter inch by itself is pretty wimpy.

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

That between the frame rail mount would be ingenious if it was turned around the other way.

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

i see that you cut the plate already, but what i did is mounted the sides plates level first then the top plate on top of that, something like this..

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

if you want it where it is for now: take the plate to a welding/fab shop and ask them to put it in a bender, bring your truck and give it a quick look and your set, give them a ten spot and they'll be happy so will you

AND what winch is that? looks fancy /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I may still be able to do it like that. Does it just not bolt to the top rail that way? I left some overhang on the sides because I am planning on welding the side tabs to the winch plate anyway.

I don't want to do it between the frame rails I like how it looks and I don't really want it sideways down there and it won't fit upright. I have a tube bumper that is gonna go on around this mount.

It's a Warn 9500Ti

this is so close to being right but not quite there.
the feet should face the load rather then away from it.

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

What do you mean...mount the mounting bracket on the other side of the tabs?

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Yep. Then it would use all that heavy steel to support the load instead of just the bolts.

Re: Winch mount started (PICS) and question

Forget it...I know what you mean.
If it was flipped the other way."C" channel in front with winch behind.
