I would like to have my winch set up on tow mounts (on like a 10,000 poind reciever hitch or some sort) - what could I set up for the front? I'm going to be fabbing a winch bumper with either a excond fairlead and have the winch more under the vehicle instead of sticking out the front so much or I will have to get tricky. I've seen too many get stuck the wrong way and would like to be able to throw it in the rear if need be. Any set ups like this?

i like dontoe's idea, but i don't like the idea of the winch being available to get knocked around on trees/rocks - i'm thinking i'll try and get mine farther back betweeen the frame rails and run the cable through the bumper and if need be, i could drop it out to put it on the back. :)

I made a front reciever for mine by boxing the frame on the front. Then I welded a piece of thick walled 2.5 inch tubing between ithe frame and butt welded another piece (.250 wall, 2.5 inch tubing) sticking out the front that would accept a standard hitch.

I got a piece of 4x12 angle iron for a winch plate and just welded and braced a 2 inch piece of tubing to the bottom of the plate. Slid it in the where i wanted it and drilled my pin hole.

The standard back reciever works goods like it is. Just got some 20ft leads from warn and put the quick connects front and rear.

Works well, I just wish the hitch fit in the reciever a little tighter. I had to drill a second hole in the hitch to gether rear to line up though.

If i did it over I would do the front hitch different like dontoe so it would be more recessed. But I plan to build a front bumper around it to give the winch a little more protection.

I'll try to get some pics up.

I got a receiver tube from my local trailer supply store and welded it to a slab of 1/2" plate, then bolted the whole thing to the bottom of the frame with 1/2-13 grade 8 bolts.

Then I mounted my winch to a hunk of 2" solid square stock and drilled a hole for the cross pin. I made up my own extension wires for the rear mount with Anderson connectors and (I think) 4 gauge cables.

Lastly, I built my bumper around the entire thing. I'll see if I can get a picture.

Here is my setup,it is with 2 receivers, one above and one below the front bumper. The winch can go right into any receiver, the second one on the front removes completely from both ends. 4x6_fs_30155_018 (600 x 400).jpg
