Gonna do a rear winch mount and am trying to figure out what size plate to use for it. Thinking 1/4" would be enough? (will be mounted feet forward, plate will be gusseted) Any ideas on mount design would be appreciated to!

Also, what about a receiver? I am thinking about getting a plain 24" long 2" receiver tube and welding it to the bottom of the plate used for the winch mount. How have y'all done a receiver with a rear winch mount? (stock receiver won't work, its design is odd and makes incorporating a winch impossible)

1/4" is the way to go.

Reciever tube, depends on how you design it, 1/4" material is strong enough, gotta have good bracketry to support pulling duties.

For my portable mount I took a piece of 5"x3"x1/2" angle and welded it to some 2"x2"x1/4" tube. Fully welded. Punched some holes in the 5 inch side to bolt to. Then i cut a slot in the 3 inch side for the cable to come through. Then I mounted my roller fairlead on the outside.

Then for fun I put a small 8 inch led and bolted it to the top of the roller. It only comes on when you power up the winch.

I use a 11,500 superwinch. I also welded on a d ring on the unused side. Winch is offset. This way I can snatch block back to the mount. I also mounted two d rings on the bottom so I can triangle the mount back to the receiver if I am doing a side pull or angle pull. This will (hopefully) prevent the 2x2x1/4 tube from bending. ( have never needed to do this to date)
:D
