Ok so i had a ramsey patriot 15k i got from that ramsey rep years ago. Barely used it (never pulled anything out with it) and motor got water in it and i sold it. At least i broke even.

So years go by and truck sat. Started driving it and burried it and took 5h to get out cuz i wasnt running. Bud pulling me out snapped a shorty hub and a locking hub.
To which i bought him new hubs...

Wished i had that winch.

Now i bought an 8.1L without discussing to wife so to make amends someone should be picking it up today.

So... gonna take $100 and buy the harbor freight trans jack and modify it to reach my truck...if needed... as my rear main is pukin up a storm

But with the rest of the $ gonna talk to wife but essentially put a winch back in the truck.

I have narrowed it to 2 winches.

Any vendors here that sell winches? Chat me a price with steel cable or sythetic for any winch waterproof and bigger than 17k

Im leaning towards smittybilt but sherpa stallion 25k look interesting. Really want that and is only $1k free shipping to USA

So next up. These come set with wires to front mount.

So my next question.... how to wire it and gauge wire to mount in back of truck on frame rails?

I dont do rocks so if im stuck in mud... i wanna go out how i came in. Future will be a hydraulic up front. Truck running...i was going that way... lets pull me through it..

So originally i had winch in back and 2 batteries in parallel(d size think they were called...big suckers..) with 00 welding wire then smaller charge wire back to aux battery under hood that was a 1000ca battery in parallel to another.

Both smittybilt and sherpa told me i should go directly to the battery where alternator wire goes to the battery for best performance as i emailed them....

Will start there. Thx
Pics cuz we likem... lol

I have recievers front and rear with a Warn multimount winch cradle.
I wired both front and rear using a Warn isolation solenoid controlled by a dash mounted switch.
The dash switch is wired to ignition power.
The solenoid is wired directly to the batteries(also 2 batts in parallel).

I would definitely use an isolation solenoid to avoid having 8 feet of constantly live welding cable strung along your frame rails.
Also prevents some jackass from throwing the winch cable over your cab and flattening your truck using a paper clip.
