Got my new winch rope from winchlines.com , 180 plus 7.51 shipping , fast service , ordered Monday , made Tuesday , in my hand Friday

Anyway , I gues I had 5/16 before ( hand me down ) this 3/8 line is huge compared to the old one , and the HD thimble is too big to fit in my hook .

How many run a shackle in lieu of a hook ? I am leaning that way now :D

I use a shackle instead of a hook, on the rear winch of my rig. It takes a little longer to hook up, but you don't have to worry about it coming off.

Did you get the Syn Rope or Wire Cable ?? That price was for how many feet??
I need to buy new line for my 8274 and ave been leaning towards 125' of 3/8 wire cable due to the price of the eqiuv. rope

3/8 x 100 blue synthetic with HD thimble , and he threw some lengths of what looks like tow strap sewn together so I can run the rope through it and over rocks ( the eye fits through it ) , but I also have the cover of the old rope on there ( did it from winch end ) :pimp:

You got the crushproof HD thimble correct. If so then just use a shackle. That is what alot of people are starting to do. I know Fred does it and I believe Ford Chris also does it.

Yes on the Dyneema , and yes on HD thimble . More than one member ( Muddytazz , local to them , and az-k5 ) reffered me to them , and they were great on the phone .

And for comparison , spidertrax offers it with hook for 256.00 , and chafe guard is 22.00 extra . Most of us have shackles on our rigs though , or access to a shop ( farm , industrial , etc ) to buy a hook for less than 20 bucks !!

do they make and sell sheathing for the rope to prevent chafing?? Im buying winch rope at the OFFROAD EXPO in a couple of weeks hopefully.

Yes they sell a sleeve that goes over top of the road to protect it if you have to make a pull with the line resting on a rock or something. Many synthetic lines come with it or it is usually an option if it doesn't. It isn't a very expensive option and it is very worth it. It isn't a bad idea to have 2 different pieces on the cable incase you have 2 points of contact while winching.

Subscribing to this good info right here...

see ya on Wednesday at Jason's and I'll check out your new rope :D

Jason, I'll be there around 10 to 11 on wed. Got the whole day off to get ready. I might even have time to take apart all my spring packs and tear out the UHMW-PE tape which isn't holding up well. And replace those worn spring eye poly bushings. All I need is the engine hoist for this.
