Theres a real good chance im about to get a Warn XD9000 with no cable.
Ive been hearing lots of things about ropes.
From what ive read they are safer, lighter, and stronger, which translates to me... more expensive.

Does anyone have any winch rope experience?

How much would one roughly cost compared to the same size cable?

This will be used on my k5.

Lighter, Strong. Looks cool lol. Not good for UV's to hit it. Cuts up on rocks not bad though. Best bennifit is easier on ur winch cause weighs less

I love my winch rope, totally worth it.

Rope will be $200-250, cable will be $60-100.

I don't know If its a wives tale, but I heard that the rope is bad to use if you were into mud bogging, because the water and mud can rot the rope and eat away at it. is that true?

I've also heard that mud can get inside the rope and wear through the strands of the rope.

It can happen to steel cable too, it just takes that particular abuse better.

Either way, its important to keep mud out of your winch rope/cable and wash it out when you're washing everything else.

The water isn't bad for the rope since we are stealing the technology from ocean going ships. Most of the rope that we use was originally meant to tie off ships to docks and I think for some deep sea fishing applications.

The mud however will get between the strands and then as you use the rope the dirt acts like sandpaper and wears away at the rope.

That being said I have had the same rope on my buggy for 6 years and only had a few failures that were more my fault than that of the rope. You just have to be careful with it going over rocks and such. I have seen rope break and recoil really hard but as soon as it touched something it just fell to the ground. I have also seen it break and fall right to the ground with very little recoil at all.

I am a big fan of rope myself, IMO it is worth the extra $$

Thanks for the replies guys. Sounds like a deal for me. I dont really hit the mud too much, more of a climber myself. Since the winch is free, i wouldnt mind spending money on a decent rope!
