I bought it in October 2003 and installed it in May, 2004.
It's a piece of crap. I broke the clutch shifting lever clean off and the case once as well.
IF you do use it, make sure your bumper will take a warn winch later when you throw it away. My bumper's design is based on the compact design of the E12000 which is much smaller in height than any Warn or Ramsey (thus the issues with the small drum and support rods too close to cable.
I wouldn't waste the time, but since you didn't put out any cash for it, give it a shot. Do not put it in a hidden mount--the cable only has to wrap one extra layer before it breaks the case.
When it works it is not slow. The specs are comparable to any Warn M12000. It's slow compared to the high speed 9500s and the 8274, but EVERY 12000 lb winch is slower than a 9500. This winch is no slower than any other....just a piece of crap China overly compact design.

Something esle to keep in mind when buying a winch is what kind of wheeling are you planning on doing?
Mud usually requires a stringer winch than rock.

Ya, I would definately agree to go Warn! But what winches are you looking at for those prices? There are alot of dealers out there with great prices. It pays to shop around before you buy.

I started out w/ a 3.6 hp ramsey 8000 and i though it was great. It never gave me any problems except for some crappy terminals in the remote connector. Then I outgrew the 8K and stepped up to a Warn M12000. What a piece of crap the Ramsey was. The Warn was faster, easier to use, and way better quality (and obviously way more nut!) I would never buy anything but a Warn again. I think one of the biggest differences is The Warn uses a seires wound motor and the Ramsey (at least mine) used a crappy permanant magnet motor. I think some of the better Ramseys have the seires wound motors but I am officially converted to Warn for life /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
I play mostly in the mud would a thermometric 9500 work or should I go bigger. I need to save then with xmas bonus i should be set /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
what is the thermometric part for? not required item IMO

I used to believe this... not anymore. I really like the Warn better. More reliable, faster in general. Just better maid.

I would go higher if you get into the mud seriously. Nothing under a 12k for a fullsze Blazer in the mud.

Buddy had a Ramsey 12k on a Blazer with 44s. Pulled out, but not as strong as the Warn 12ks did.
Ramsey 8k... slow slow slow... and weak weak weak.

I've had one for 15 years and I like it. Pulled out everything from Heeps to a School Bus. Never had to use it for myself though. Besides, I like the name. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I guess opinions can differ a lot here. My experience with winches are in mud... deep wheel swallowing mud. About as much of a load you can place on a winch. I mean non more 44s visible mud. Not water... mud.
I have my winch not becuase I might need it, or just case. I have mine cause I know I WILL NEED IT. And probably EVERY time I go out. Period.
This is the reason I spent the extra and went with a Warn. I used to hem and haw about which one to get and if the oney worth it and am I just buying a name. Well, no... no I did not. I got the Wann becuase they are just a plain and simple better product.
I see it every time we go out. From little Jeeps with 8k winches to the big suckers. We have had to hook three winches, all of them using snatch blocks... and it still took half a day to get the truck out.
But, opions are like azzholes...
