I don't want to admit to how many hours I spent looking for this...

But is there any data anywhere about how much winches really weigh? I'd like ready to run without cable, but I can figure out how much "wire rope" or synthetic rope weighs.

I'd like to know how much a Warn 8274-S (the fancy new one) weighs versus say a 10k or 12k VR Evo or Zeon or or or. I can guess by shipping weight, but whodatruck knows if that is accurate either.

I have a 10k laying on the floor with wire. I can weigh it if I remember

Just look up a new one, and find the specifications.
Almost everything has a weight listed somewhere.

I couldn't find unit weights on Warn's website. I'd think there's only 10-15 lbs difference between the same winch with syn vs steel.

Per Amazon, the shipping weight of an 8274 w/ cable is 121 lbs.

That said, Amazon also says an 8274 with synthetic rope is 53 lbs which is definitely off.

The weights aren't listed in the specification tab but they are listed in this brochure.

That is literally exactly what I'm looking for!...
Except something is odd.

I have a EVO VR 10 (the wire rope), actually have 3 of them. Sitting there. The rope is 23lbs but they're showing they weigh 25lb difference. The numbers don't add up for similar winches either between synthetic and wire.

Best ‘weigh’ to find out is give customer support a call. That’s what they’re there for and I’m sure they get bored during their shift, so give them something to do. :waytogo:

I tried calling, probably not best to call on a Friday afternoon.

I keep looking at the Zeon 10 Platinum and the 8274-S for my YJ. My VR EVO 10 is too slow.

When spending that much on a winch, I don't want to get something I'll be disappointed in.

Where do you find an old 8274 to fix up? A basket of rusty parts costs $1000 in the murder mitten. I started looking regularly a year ago and have been on my search list for six months now. About a month ago I started considering busted ass vehicles that had one on the front and then resell the vehicle. haha.

It seems that the 10k 8274 with synthetic rope goes for about $2900 to my door if you find someone that will violate MAP. I think by the time I buy the cool guy stuff (is Gigglepin still cool guy stuff?) and buy a 8274 that isn't rusted in a postal carton I'd be like to $2300.

I think a Zeon 10 Platinum would be fine, but I'm not sure.

Your looking in all the wrong places . There is guys refurbing them and shipping for less than $2,900 . .

Check this page out . Tons of activity and sales . And market place has deals just got to find one . And grab it quick .

I have gotten 3 over the years 2 used working 500 each 1 has synthetic rope on it . 3rd was brand new in box from 1981 paid 1,300 for it .

So, been looking for 8274s to modify, thin pickings. Technically not in a hurry I guess so I'll keep looking. But it looks like I can find a Zeon Platinum 10S for $2k.

I bought a bunch of 10k VR Evo last year when they were cheap with the intent of replacing some of my other older Chinese winches, but these aren't much faster. I sold one to fund the Axon 55 I bought.

On a side note, do you have a front sight pusher for the p320 ? if so brand model and how well does it work ? Having issue installing front sight in one.

The NCSTAR chinesium one works fine. I have had to use a jeweler's file to take the sharp edges off the sights before to get them to reliably slide in without digging. Also helps to toss the sight in the freezer and the slide in the oven.

Some of the stuff I've also had to use some 2000 grit sandpaper to remove some of the buildup on the slide.

I've now sold two of the VR EVO winches with wireless remotes. It's funny, I had them listed for months for the same price, plenty of tire kickers, then in two days I sold two. I've now made enough off those to pay for the remaining VR EVO 10 with wireless remote and the Axon 55.

I'm kind of eyeballing a new 8274. Would look good on a 30 year old rustbucket I think. Would be roughly 33lbs heavier (between mount and winch) to go for it versus a 10k Zeon Platinum.

It's kind of amazing how no one pays attention to the weight of things.

i have a brand new in box 8274 . its from 1981 . to make it same as newer its a motor swap like guys do and synthetic rope is all with color change . hit me up if you want to talk about mine i need to sell .

You have piqued my interest!

The Adams rear driveshaft and I forget what brand front driveshafts are too short so some porkage might do some good.
