thanks for the stright forward answer
Chuckle. True dat. Figure on a winch bumper when you put a winch on, i.e. something with some meat, 3/16" thick or better, attached to the frame and reinforced by the winch attachments, maybe 1/4" or more up there.
If you're pulling straight ahead, for light pulls, these brushguards that you see with winch attachments might work ... but as soon as you go off-angle or get really stuck, you're just gonna rip your brushguard and bumper right off, leaving in front of youf truck a twisted pile of metal with heavy wires to your battery -- not only doesn't get you out of the stuck, but is a fire hazard as well

I guess Maybe do the hidden winch or do a front hitch
Well, the front hitch has the same problem as above ... anything off angle and you're gonna bend or break the hitch. Hidden winches are cool, but do require more work, juggling the radiator support and/or sheetmetal, and/or you lose ground clearance. (You know how I know!

)
You keep thinking about this sort of thing, we're gonna make you buy a welder...
Just finished welding up my "custom" homebrew rear bumper, gonna start on the front one here in a bit. I figure for the cost of buying two aftermarket bumpers I can almost claim the welder paid for itself.
