Funny that you mention the ball hitch, way back when someone mentioned that scenerio, and it is just that, that I compare the weights to. What I mean is, if the ball can come flying back, why not the line with weights?

My biggest concern is always other peoples rigs, homemade bumpers and what have you with sketchy welds...it's sooo hard to say no when they are stuck, and you are questioning their welding ability.

Big Blaze here's that link again.

It is some really good info. I have a trade ticket in hoisting and rigging and I've yet to find anything contradictory in his write up, and I think I even learned a few things. Great info for us guys getting into the sport.

I think it's called physics or some other weird foreign type word pertaining to the study of crazy stuff that takes either a nerd or a hippy on acid to understand.:haha: :haha: :haha:

Yeah I took that class in highschool. Weird thing is no one else was wearing shorts and sneakers, and we never once went into a gym or onto the field.

I've yet to see a line or anchor break or give, but I always wonder if weights on the line really would make much of a difference. Anyone every see them do their job?

Weight on the multimount is a good point, moving that thing to the back of the rig in soupy mud is always the highlight of the day!

Whoa there :eek1: I never said anything about weights! Weights would be a bad idea IMO - they would simply become a heavier missile if the cable broke. :doah:

A winch cable flag is just what it sounds like. It is a flag that snaps or velcros onto the cable near the hook end. If the cable breaks, the flag's air resistance soaks up the energy, preventing the cable from whipping. You can use a sleeping bag, a couple heavy jackets, etc. as makeshift flags, or even make one yourself from an old blanket or a couple old beach towels :deal:

Scott is great guy. Can't recall ever seeing him post here though. I'd be surprised if he posts much anywhere any more. When he first started out he & I were on the same mailing list. First class guy with good service.

can you only do phone orders with rockstomper?

I'm pretty sure you can, but on winch ropes he picks your brain, to find a rope to suite your needs.

Rockstomper did sponser Steve Fox's UAV project. I think at one time we received a 10% discount.

what would be the best for me then?

i`m leaning towards the 3/8ths 100` charcoal gray, comes out to be like 210, i`ll just re use my current hook...is a tree saver worth its cost?

thinkin about callin up scott at rockstomper tonight, so should i get 90` of 7/16 or 100` of 3/8????

i only want to be able to get out of mud safely or a over or around tough obstales, but without the worry of the metal cable, which is why i am switching to synthetic...

also do you think if i brought it down and turned in the cable and the scrap yard i would get anything for it worth the ride?

bump....want to call them tonight and would like to hear your opinions on 7/16 or 3/8

edit: 3/8ths it is!

I am the first to vote and I went with 3/8x100. That is what I got and after dragging a 3/4 ton Dodge up hill for almost 100 yards I'm sold on it. I pulled the Dodge with a Jeep TJ.

just got off the phone with rock stomper....seemed pretty nice...217 even for a 100` of charcoal grey 3/8ths:D cant wait to put it in and use it:D

I just got mine from peak empire. 100' 3/8's with a hook for about $170 (caught them on sale). Got an aluminum fairlead from spidertraxx for $40 and was done.
