on my 1984 jimmy, the washer pomp comes on everytime i use the wipers. with out activating pomp. wiper work ok low and high, once you use the washer pomp once it come on everytime after that. the pomp is kind of a complicated system ,in those years. took it apart a few times and couldn,t seem too see a problem! so decide to replace the whole assembly. it work good for a short while, now its doing the same thing again. my intermittant are slow or fast, don,t know if it would have too do something with my problem. anybody ever had this problem?:dunno: could install universal pomp with a push button ,would like too leave it as is.

I'd like to hear the fix too. My 84 windshield washer pump/nozzle/etc has never worked. Wipers work good though.

if it wasn't the switch, and the mechanical's of the motor and arms are ok, I'd check the intermittent module under the column for an issue.. it helps to isolate issues, unplug the motor and jumper lead it to separate and verify good operation, and that it's an electrical issue prior in the system...

I bet its the switch in the column. It is like 7 wires into a little box. Very easy for something to wrong. Mine broke and stuck the wipers and squiter on full blast. Have fun changing it if thats what it is. Its a giant PITA

well after replacing that pomp, got and other one off warrenty, saying it was bad , that one worked great until i had another differnt trouble.in heavy rain it would heat and stall wiper arms or run real slow. so replace that one on warrenty again thats the 3 one. ok until this fall were it started doing the same squirting trouble as the first one,its still warrenty jimmy is parked for winter. will fiddle with that and a few other small problems in april, mean while finding a new switch would maybe help!!!
