Windshield alternatives

What do you mean by alternative? Windshields are typically required by the states DOT.

There's always lexan etc like race cars but it would scratch easily.

Well it’s more or less gonna be off road only trying to keep the dust out and not have glass ...

As said options are limited to Lexan and glass.
Of course you could go all high tech and put sheet metal in place of the glass and install some cameras and monitors.

Now your talking lol

So weirdly enough you will have substantially less dust with no windshield. The dust stays down low. Even when following someone there is less dust. So I second goggles

I built a windshield for my side by side a few years ago. I did lots of research and ended up finding out that your typical "plexi-glass" is actually quite scratchable and brittle and shouldn't be used. I found a plastics manufacturer that schooled me on the different materials and was advised to used something call "AR polycarbonate". Fancy word for abrasion resistant plastic. It's also softer than plexiglass and will not crack and has a UV coating so it will not discolor in the sunlight. The stuff I used is about 1/4" thick and cuts easily with a jigsaw and then I just drilled over sized holes and sandwiched it with some rubber and fender washers to mount it. I am careful not to rub it when it's covered in dust and I make sure to use a plastic safe glass cleaner on it and it has held up amazingly well for the last 3 years. Most of the aftermarket side by side windshields I have seen people buy are just crappy plexi-glass and they crack easily. In fact my machine was owned by my brother in law before me and he had problems keeping windshields in it due to them cracking. I would look up some plastics suppliers and give them a call. The place I used was in Grand Junction, CO and I drove there from Moab and picked it up.
