I’m starting to look into replacement panels for the truck and while most of the rust and bad stuff is easy to replace, the windshield frame and roof skin I’m lost on. What are y’all’s thoughts? Find a donor body or what? I’m not opposed to just whacking the roof off and making it a full convertible. I only run tube doors and I can have a bimini top made fairly cheap. My concern is the windshield and getting it to fit right. I’m not that good of a body guy to make my own frame.

hate to say it, but you'll be chasing your tail over the yrs IMO with that cab.. rust from the glass up is often a death knell for these rigs... get's in those seams high in the jambs and will always come back somewhere else.. cutting the roof off, excluded. ;)

I junked my 77 over that...

That’s what I was afraid of. Guess it’s time to convince the wife I need a full fiberglass shell.

just hate to see ya throw a bunch of labor at something, to be disappointed 5 yrs later...

I agree, heavy rust at the base of the windshield pillar is the kiss of death for me. Once you start you’ll probably end up pulling the front clip to replace most of that hinge pillar. That area at the weatherstrip along the top of the windshield is a whole different PITA. If another tub is an option, I’d take it.

When I first started reading I thought yeah I have the same problem, then I saw the pictures.
:eek1:
I just have a pinholes on the top and a tiny rust area on the top of the windshield.
For me I am looking for a skin and that will solve my problem.
I have scrapped better tubs than yours.
Sorry.
But I enjoyed my k5 for 5 years and beat it up before I scrapped it.
It was almost that bad on the A pillars.
I didn't care about the body so I took it rock crawling or lets say rock bashing.
I had plenty of fun until I had 6 cracks in the frame so I scrapped it

It is what it is. I’m enjoying the busted up look for now. Then I’ll get bored with it and find another body and make it pretty.

Make sure you have fun with this one in the meantime :pimp:
It's the only thing it is good for at this point
