Need to remove cowl to check for possible leaking. I have the wipers off and 4 screws from hood side.. How do you get it to slide off, with the hood up or down? You don have to remove the hood do you?

I have a leak coming from firewall, soaking firewall insulation. Is not coolant, leaks when setting and raining.
A/C box where it mounts to the firewall is not looking so good. Seal putty is hard and splitting. Might be from there.

you have the hardware off, it's just 5 push-in pins under the windshield at that point.. just pull it toward the front of the rig...

you really need the hood off, you WILL scrape both of em up doing it with the hood on.... it can be done, but ya got kinda tweak it, scrape it by, not worth it imo..

get a couple tubes of seam sealer...

Already got seam sealer. Would you loosen the bolts then seam it in there and tighten it, or just seam it installed.

Thanks

well, you don't have to go into the cowl vent to seal the ac box, thats from the eng compartment...

the reason you would be pulling the vent cowl is to redo the seam sealer down in the trough that feeds the A-pillars vents... it's down in where the wiper rods are...

for the AC box, if it where me, I would probably try to clean out the exposed caulk, prep it and lay a nice fresh seam seal bead over it... f*ck that pulling the box.. just heat, maybe... AC, no way.. :haha:

Thanks,
Just so I'm picking up what your putting down, A/C side is under the hood and heater in under the dash...

no.... not at all... i was saying if you had a heat only truck, yes, than you should take the unit off the firewall and repair the caulk the right way.. a big AC and heat unit, leave it in and do it in place..

find the leak with a garden hose... run it strictly down the slat in the cowl vent, so it runs out the back of the fenders on each side.. if that leaks, than you need to pull the vent and caulk those joints..

if not, run the hose over the top edge of the AC and see if that gets it wet..

Gotcha, my blazer is heat and ac. Will give that a try.
Thanks

and keep in mind, I doubt highly it's the AC box, the firewall stays pretty dry..

the cowl vent on the other hand....
