Stupid question from a newbie, how would i fix a leaking front windshield. Is there any weather stripping on it or molding around the edge. I looked at it and i saw what looks like molding on the top and sides but have come up enpty on the web. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

covered a lot here .

our trucks have a BIG rubber gasket the glass is in and small center strip of rubber to pinch it tight . so not glued in like newer stuff with molding .

were is the water you see ?

and our trucks 30+ years old by now have dry/ shrunk up seam sealer . the stuff in the windshield cowl area under all the wiper parts gets dryed out and splits open . this is a big point of water inlet .

also check for rust around the windshield gasket on the body of the cab . if there is some its going to need work to fix it .

check this stuff / and tell us were you see water coming in and report back .

These things have a two piece seal. One thatbspans both the glass and the frame, and a round center piece that "zips" and pushes those two halves to their respective side.

If you pull the center round piece out, run a very small bead of black or clear silicone along the metal frame side, then reinsert the round part. Once you look at it, it will make sense.

A tad of ATF will help slide the round seal back in

Windex works too

Rookies..... hahaha!!!
I use glass cleaner like my glass guy does, and it's easy to clean up. But I clean the strip with penetrating oil first.

Other than that, @sweetk30 nailed it!!

Thanks guys there is damage on tje frame around the seals im in the process of fixing it now. But its comimg in the top cant really tell except the top of the winshield will pour water in when a heavy rain falls. I want to pull the wondshield out and make sure there is no rust behind the seals. But i want the seals in hamd before i do that, i just cant find where to buy the seals online. All od the ones i see say they wont fit on my year truck.

What year?

well 89 k1500 is glue in glass so all our info will not be correct .

but if there is rust then time to have it pulled and set aside and fix the rust problems . paint . and let the glass guy reinstall it the correct way .

Ok thanks guys i figured it was glue in but it looked like there was some type of molding or trim piece at the top of the windshield.

I would use butyl rubber caulk or the stuff they use to reseal new windshields, not silicone...only certain kinds of silicone is OK for use on metal to glass.

I made the mistake of using RTV gasket maker to seal up a leaky windshield and it made the metal rot around the roof line in a very short time,RTV releases acetic acid when it cures (vinegar,basically)--it is acidic enough to eat away at sheet metal, especially if it has some rust already..
