windshield leaking

I was wondering anyone else have a windshield leak?
I have not been in the car in 3 days and it has wet floor mats. looked up in there and it looks like the windshield .is leaking. was going to get my flowable windshield sealer and seal the thin when it not raining.

the past 9 days 7 inches of rain or more
 
My guess is that it’s got cancer, maybe at the windshield or maybe at the firewall/fresh air vent. I’d dig deeper before throwing some goo on there.
 
The cab above the windshield and sun visors on my pickup rotted thru and lets water fall in my crotch when I take left turns on rainy days-(very embarrassing,makes you look like you wet your pants!)..

-I used some waterproofing tape like what is used to patch leaking roofs ("Peel & Seal") to cover the rot holes after scraping off all the loose crap,that seems to have solved it...

The roof on my truck has at least 1" of bondo all across the exterior,I think a tree hit it before I bought it,and now it has cracked and lost some chunks ,and has a rot hole or two under the bonodo,I used the same tape to seal up the areas to prevent more water damage..

It is common for the body to rot out where the windshield rubber goes on GM trucks too...I think every truck I've owned had leaks around the windshield or cab in that area..
 
well got a better flashlight laid down all funky and looked up in there and its cracked below the windshield right where the rust is....
can i fiber glass that or not a good idea?

Depends what you use.
You still need to clean the rust but the resin is pretty sticky, brush it on and lay a matt then brush some more resin on.
 
The glass shops in my area usually used fiberglass based bondo with short strands like Mar-Glass that is waterproof to fill in rot around the windshield when they find some after removing the windshield...
That stuff ,unlike ordinary bondo,will not absorb water and it sticks better than the regular bondo ,which is talcum powder based..

I used the Mar-Glass stuff on my rotted oil pan on my 6.2 and its still holding tight--tried regular bondo previously,it worked for awhile,but eventually peeled loose and fell off in one big chunk when I touched it..

The glass shop that replaced a few windshields for me told me never use RTV or silicone on rot around a window,many of them are acidic and will rot the metal worse and quickly!...he said the 3M "Windo-Weld" urethane sealer is what he uses if the rotted area is not a wide crack,in that case he would use fiberglass "tiger hair" type bondo or the short strand stuff with cloth or mat..

The "proper" repair would be to weld or braze in new metal,but most glass shops wont get that far involved doing a glass replacement,they would farm it out to a body shop..
 
Chances are once you start peeling the onion in that area,you'll wish you hadn't,especially if its a rust belt truck.....that is why most glass shops just shlock some fiberglass filler in the bad spots and call it good..
