What have yall done to fix your weak wipers? Mine will barely move when I need them to, and wont budge when the windshield is dry. Is there a motor/wiper set you can swap out from a newer chevy to help this?

New motor?

The motor on my '76 is fine and who knows how old it is. Gets rid of the snow great when I'm too lazy to brush it off. I'm running 18"s too, not the stock 16"s.

Search : Who else has slow ass wipers? Member: Russell seemed to know a bit about swapping in a motor from a 88-95C/K series truck. From what i read you would have to change the vehicle connector at the wiper motor. Im interested too. Just not interested enough to have looked at the wiring diagrams for both vehicles...Yet:waytogo:

Replace your motor. THat will make a big difference. Mine are in no way like a newer truck, but a lifetime warranty motor that happens to "break" and get switched out every few years serves me fine.

Before you condem the wiper motor,I'd try lubing up all the wiper transmission's linkages and ball joints--the one in my '82 K2500 had a pivit in the center that was squeaking and the wipers had no "balls",until I sprayed it good with penetrant and then squirted some motor oil on all the linkage joints--its now having no trouble sweeping slush away and its finally not "chirping" any more too...

Sometimes the motors do get "tired" though--dirty armature commutators ,worn out brushes, and permanent magnets weakened by overheating can all reduce the amount of power it'll produce...I bet low voltage is responsible for many "weak" motors too--I'm not sure if you can put a relay in the circuit to improve amperage right at the motor ..

Guess I will look at replacing the motor, I also broke off the wiper the other morning when trying to clean the snow off the windshield, record low temps here in WEst TX (9 degrees), snapped it right off!

yeah they say its gonna snow today in SA, just not gonna drive lol. ill fix my wipers when its 75* outside.

No joke, those axles I bought from you coupled with the boggers made it an absolute hell on Tuesday getting around town...now I know what everyone means when they say its a pain to drive on ice with a detroit!

Congrats on rig of the month btw, that thing is SWEET!

I have a detroit in mine too, and I now what you mean about driving on ice...my tires are probably better suited for the ice and snow than yours though...got them while I was in Oregon for the snow...
I took it nice and easy driving in Burleson today...we still have a good amount of ice on the roads.

I've been driving my car around because I don't have a heater in the truck (I think it's clogged), it also needs a new power source for the choke (which means PITA to start) and the battery keeps dying. So yea, once we get another 50° day then I'll get to fixing the truck and possibly fix the wipers too.
