is there any years that are better then others? i did a search didnt find the answer to it. thought i read on here somewhere about Volvo fan. didnt find that either

thanks

i dont think so, the ones in my truck are from a 97 windstar i believe , they cool it just fine.

iirc, 95 thru about 99 are the best years...

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought you were saying that you were a fan of the Ford Windstar!:haha:

I believe they are the fans from the 3.6L V-6 engines from like (said above) 95-99.

x2

For some reason I think it's only this motor that got the good fans. I could be wrong though.

You can also look into Ford Tauras fans. I believe the bigger one of the two is variable speed.

Actually the windstars had 3.0l or 3.8l v6's, i believe the 3.8's did have a better fan set up, from what I have found the newer windstars with the 3.8l the fans are the same as the older ones so I would look for the newest units possible (least mileage). Certain year taurus's did have a 2 speed larger fan but I don't know much about them. Alot of guys are also using a fan from the lincoln mark 5 (?) , it is a single fan that moves a LOT of air , not sure on the specifics of it.

I went with the windstar fans because of the availability (local yard had approx 20 of them) and the twin fan setup gives you some options on wiring. :D

Ehhhh, 2/10 of a liter. That sounds right on the 3.8l as it has been several months since I saw the fans and motors in a JY.

I installed the windstar fans on my 91 suburban. Same size for the radiator and everything. Works great and moves tons of air. I'll be taking pictures soon and posting them up to help.

I just traded my mark viii fan for the windstar fan setup. mark moved a TON of air. windstars are much better... only need one of the 2 most of the time. They flow almost as much air and are MUCH quieter.

From all accounts, you've got to spend SERIOUS money on aftermarket fans to get the performance you do from Windstars.

I think this is along the lines of the stock clutch fan...no one knows what the CFM is of the fans, so it's pretty hard to compare, other than how well they work, and I haven't heard any complaints about the effectiveness of them.

didnt hook one up yet, but i got 4 for 100 bucks. pretty cheap compared to the new ones.

If you do a little fab work to the shroud you can make your stock fan shroud mounts work with the electric fans to ease install quite a bit. The drivers side sits flush with radiator but pass side is a little off other then that great fit.
