Got the efan installed, life is good until I need to kick the heater on. Wondering if everyone had tested or researched to amperage draw of the ford windstar electric fans. Also how much 'extra' should I have left over from the battery after the system draws what is required to operate. I am running a 100 x 4 amp, efans (2), blower motor on high, headlights on low with a new 800 cca interstate battery reading 12.97 with the truck running tested at the battery with a multimeter while the factory gauge just above the redline. I haven't finished the second battery tray yet, I should be able to paint it tomorrow after work, might be a temporary patch but I'd really like to get an idea of which alternator I need to start hunting for
BTW I think I've got a 70 amp on there now and I am planning on doing the headlight mod within a few weeks. Thanks

Upgrade the alternator. I just did. My old alt was the high output in 79, but it wouldn't cut it. I just installed a CS-144 alternator and I love it, the gauge never dips and everything is full power.

The alternator I got was for a 94 trans sport w/ rear air, 140 amps, w/o rear air has 105 amps I believe.

still rewiring my truck.. but i got all parts for this upgrade.. cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is your a small frame on your truck before replacing it?

i have been on the vodka train tonight... BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

frame sizes

Ummm...it's a blazer frame, so I guess it's smaller? :dunno:

No really, I have no idea what you mean.

Gm has two sizes (told to me from Gm parts counter @ dealership) small and large each has their own brackets. Alternators won't fit up without correct brackets. Small one max around 105 amps, big one max around 140 amps. Went to dealership and asked since I,m not getting answers here. That's why I know
Btw the windstar fans each pull 15.5 amps!

The casings. There is a cs-130 casing, which is smaller, the bearings are smaller and there is the possibility of overheating. The cs-144 casing is larger for increased cooling and the bearings are larger. I went with the one I did just in case. I didn't need that much power, but I figured if I did need it in the future, I have it. Plus a higher amp alt. running easy will last longer than a smaller amp maxed out all the time.

Mine is a 79 so it had to old Si-12 casing. It just took a little bit of massaging the brackets to get it to fit. THere are a few threads on here that talk about the mounting. I recently just installed mine 2 weeks ago so it's still kind of fresh.
