Winter storage sucks!

So when I went to get my blazer out of storage, I found a dead batt., then3 broken spots in the fuel line. and with the tbi that sucks. I already knew I needed to put a clutch in it, but I just wanted to take her out for a ride.

Last year I didn't store it, and all was fine. but it did take it's toll on the body.

The year before it was a brake line, and a clutch master.

And before that the brake booster.

So if I put her away it looks good but can't hope in and take a ride, or drive it and have the body go to hell. Just ranting.

Winter, whats that . My winters are no colder then mid 50's during the day. I go years without seeing snow.

Snow whats this thing you speak of called snow... lol Im on the gulf coast store it or sit it outside every thing's gonna rust anyways...Sorry bout the bad luck with storing.

If you are going to store it long term, like over the winter, you need to at least start it a couple of times a month. Work all the systems every time, meaning take it out for a drive. Try to plan for driving it when you are going to have a couple of days of decent weather. I would protect the body on that thing just like you are, but you can't let it sit or you will have issues.

I started it up a bunch of times, but still didn't help. I plow in were I store it, so it's hard to really take her out. That and it's jammed in there with a boat, and my fathers bronco. It just makes it a pain. Thats the best thing with old trucks, keep on replacing things till it's all new. And by that time the first thing replaced needs replacing.

I can see that type of an issue. Not much you can do, but you have to protect that body, can't let that thing get trashed.

Or you could just move, there's a lot of places that are less miserable and don't use salt....

Seems like alot of problems but maybe not so related to the storage issue as to 'it was gonna happen anyway' thing.

I've stored my 1st gen in the same dry garage space for 4 years over the course of winter.

Come April, all I've ever done is hook up the battery and drive away, never an issue with anything.

Note on the start up once a month thing...it's a bad idea.

Either run it/drive it alot or let it sit the entire time, by starting it up for short periods you never get it warmed up enough to get rid of the moisture your putting into the exhaust system every time you start it.

Having to put em away for the winter does bite though...

I know it was going to have to replace the lines soon anyway. It's just a part of life. Just sucks when you just want to take it for a ride. But I need to replace the clutch, new batt., swap the 241 out for the 205, put the xm in,front brakes, and put zero rates up front anyway. So whats two fuel lines.

Looks like I need to make my own though. LMC only has lines for carb trucks, and not tbi. Oh well.

i always end up taking my battery out when i store a truck and throw a charger on it every other week in the garage. also figure its a good thing incase someone tries to steal the truck they aint gonna get it started

I forgot to take the batt out, now I'll have a new one. Not worried about theft since it is stored within shootin range from the house, the house is 600' off the road, and no one calls the cops over gun shots here. Most people just know better.
