How do you get them off? THere does not appear to be a retaining ring or any logical way?

Crap I just did this. After forcefully prying off the first one I took a better look. There was a tension spring on mine. Flipped the wiper around bent backwards and wiper lifted off.
there is usually some type of tab that you need to push down or pull up on inside the body of the wiper right by the pin. look at the new ones to see how they attach, that should help.
I pulled, pushed and prodded. And then took a big screwdriver and just popped them off....

The OE metal style you need to bend slightly backward to get the tension off the spring. Then gently rock it off the stud.
The newer design (Anco, Trico, etc...), you need a small screwdriver to push the small plastic retaining tab away from the stud. If you use the access hole ontop of the wiper, you will be pressing down.

Good advice. Mine were OE. You can push a big flat blade in and they just pop off. I was a bit frustrated.
