OK, I'm starting my 6 pack project...which for me starts with a rough plan and goes from there. I am in scrounge mode right now looking for various parts I need.

I decided to try for a more old school look to the truck, so rather than going with a '91 baby quad front clip I scored a mint front clip off a '76. Going with the round light front end...

The 6 pack is an '87, so obviously has the newer front clip with the cowl panel and the exposed wiper arms. As it's been a really long time since I've looked at a pre 81 C/K truck I'm curious if the wiper location is a bit different?

I understand the hood on the older ones comes back to the windshield and covers the arms...which leads me to think I might have to move the wiper arms?

anyone else swap an older clip onto a newer cab or tub? Were wipers an issue?

The wiper locations are pretty close, just moved down to the cowl screen. If I had the Blazer here I could give you a close up shot of them. Bad thing is that most people go the other direction, meaning they put the newer clip on an older vehicle. I can take a look at a newer Burb and compare it to my Blazer to see what the real differences are.

Even a couple of pic's might help. i'm hoping not to have to move them, but I'm thinking the hood edge will hit them where they are right now. Maybe if you could measure down from the window so I could get a better idea of where the old style were exactly?

I will grab some measurements and some pics tomorrow, and will post up when I get a chance on Sat. I know that they will have to drop down, since the older style clips have the hood that replaces the cowl. My hood sits over them with about a 1/2" of gap to pull them away from the windshield. The back edge of the hood curves up a bit as well, almost like a bit of a windbreak, if that makes sense.

If you go to here, you can see a couple of pictures from the front and see how it curves as well as how the wiper arms sit behind it. There is quite a bit of difference between the older and newer styles.

Sorry, I haven't been able to find the lens for my camera, but I measured it out. The wiper nubs are mounted 1.5" below the windshield. There is a small tray that runs across about 2" below the windshield, that looks like a runoff tray. The nubs are mounted on that, above the cowl screen. If you have more questions or need anything else let me know. If the wipers were mounted lower they would hit the back edge of the hood.

Based on what I saw on my buddies '85 Burb, the tray that the nubs are mounted to is not present on the later model vehicles. This may be why you don't see people putting the older clip on the newer models.

You have to see how the 80's style looks with no cowl tin in place. It's actually very similar...

Dremu snapped these pic's for me of his '74

Based on those I think it should be fine.

That's what I wasn't real sure of, is if that little tray like design would be there on the newer style. Like I said, I am always happy to help, I just couldn't see if it was there on his Burb.

I'd REALLY like to do this swap... perfect time for me..

Wasn't there supposed to be a firewall/hood clearance issue or something?

yeah, I definitely prefer that hood styling.. and now is certainly the time to do it....

Cool. I just see so many guys wanting to go to the newer clip, and I prefer the older design. Hence the reason that I bought an 80, the last year of the old design.

I don't see the cowl being different enough or higher or anything. At this point it doesn't appear that there'd be any hood interference...

It does appear the wiper nubs are pretty close in location, but the earlier nubs seem shorter. I think if the early wiper nubs were swapped this'd be do-able.

Of course I won't know for sure until I start bolting the sheet metal up though...

Holy big pics batman. But, seriously that is what I am seeing. The angle looks to be about right, and they just appear to be longer nubs to go through the cowl. Probably a difference in the bolt pattern as well, but nothing that a little cutting can't fix.

Yeah, i noticed but forgot to mention it. Should be relatively easy to swap to the shorter nubs... (just gotta source a set now...)

Holy big pics batman.

Well, I did 'em big so that we could see the detail ... on their own in a browser they're resized by default. It's only inline here that they get so big you can see my truck's nostril hairs :haha:

I can shrink 'em if y'all like.

It was more joking than anything. I understood the need to show the details for him.

No worries ... I'm usually the first to whine about "Holy Big Pix Batman" ... especially when my 1680x1050 screen gets scrollbars
