Well tonight I jumped into the k5 pulled the headlights on and they came on fine, but the light under the dash came on aswell. Also I didnt have any dash inst back lights.I did notice if I put the brights on I did see the high beam light indicator....If I opened the door the light under the dash would go off and the courtesy light overhead would come on as normal....

any Ideas....

Shoulds like you might need a new headlight switch, I've heard they can go bad, since they control so much, your headlights, dashlights and dome lights, that could cause the problems you have. I've never bought a new one so I dont know how much they run, but I would look into it.

The one I put in there is pretty much new a few months ago.....I guess it could have gone bad, but I am not convinced that this is the problem....

anyone else shed some light on this....

Sure the dial didn't get turned and that's why no instrument lights?

Check fuses..

Most GM trucks have a separate fuse for the dash lights,to protect the printed curcuit on the back of the dash..usually 5 amps..turn the knob on the lightswitch too,as already suggested..it might be only that!

But you said your hi beam indicator still lights up??--that should run on the same fuse as all the other dash lights...hmm..check the big giant plug on the back of the dash, make sure its plugged in all the way-(could be the printed curcuit went poof too!)-and look for any disconnected black ground wires too, especially the one near the E-brake pedal,or the ones under the steering colum..good luck, wiring problems suck to figure out,but at least fixing them is easy once you do..

May only be slightly realted, but when i fuse went for my instrument lights ( the 5A mentioned above) my highbeam dots and turn signal lamps still worked.

I am positive it is not the dial position. But of course that is a good place to start....

There is something else screwE going on.......

anyone anyone.....with knowledge of this issue

This is going to sound really stupid but check that all the light bulbs are good. With my truck I had a front turn signal light out and it would cause my dash lighs to not work. When I put my turn signal on it would make it look like my hazards were on and so on. Good luck.
