i have to rewire my 82 suburban diesel. Looking at a painless or similar kit, but what I wanted to know is are there differences in the wiring for a diesel?
The stock harness has been hacked to oblivion and I just installed a new Diesel engine and th400/241.

The typical gas engine harness doesn't have the setup for the glow plug controller (that I know of). Wiring in a manual glow plug relay with some 60G glow plugs takes care of that concern. Then the wire that is labeled "coil" gets run to the injection pump shutoff solenoid.

Previous owner set up a manual glow plug switch, which I’m good with. Thanks for the info on the coil wire. Would have probably asked that. Painless or quikwire?

Pianless, quick wore, ez wire, I have installed them all multiple times. The painless fuse block seams to be a bit better. But not for the price difference. Get one that is a couple of curcuits bigger than you think you need.

Sounds like good advice, thank you. I may pm you in the future if you don’t mind. I’m pretty good with wiring, but may have some diesel specific issue come up.

I'll be rewiring mine (project Gimpy) pretty soon. 6.2 diesel in it for now.
