I want to rewire my K10. I was thinking of a painless direnct replacement harness but I have a lot of accessories and was thinking on drawing up a skematic and doing it myself. I've tried searching but can someone recomend some vendors or companies that have cool wiring stuff?

I bought a nice little 18 circuit universal harness from Summit. Looks pretty decent to me.

I re-wired my K5 from scratch. It's not for the light of heart. I choose this route for the same reason you specify, the harnesses you can buy only cover the underdash stuff, not underhood, and no tailsection.

ANd hear is my main layout

I have some various other circuit details, like the maxifuse layout, the relay block layout and such, but never made jpgs of them, just catia models.

Overall, would I do this again, probably, because it would be easier the second time around. I just started in and took it one circuit at a time very slowly. I joked with a buddy of mine that I should tear out my complete harness, copy it and sell it. :)

the harness i bought has all the wires needed for under the hood, dash interior and tail lights, its a complete factory replacement. Has all the fuses pre installed and everything.

I was thinking now that I should get a Painless kit for the 75% of the harness that will remain stock and then do some custom stuff you know for my stereo, headlights, offroad lights, and the autometer gauge cluster.

Only thing is that the cheapest I can find the Painless 18 circuit kit is at Summit Racing for $569 then minus a $50 rebate. Does anyone know where i can get the harness for cheaper?

Junkyard, whats wrong with your stock one?

Get a GOOD wiring diagram, like a factory service manual book. and you should be set. Saved my ass countless times when I built my 77

I rewired my truck from scratch with one of these.

They are exactly as advertised and are a GREAT deal compared to painless or the like. All the wires are labeled; they even include the connectors for the alternator, ignition switch, etc.

Here's their website.

Well the underside of my dash is utter chaos with spliced this and taped wires running all over. I have been having problems with my radio, dash lights, and turn signals. I think its time I redid it completely. Also I have been wanting to do the headlight upgrade and well as finally wire my off road lights propperly. Plus I also need to install the plug for trailer lights.

If I can even find a truck similar to mine in a junkyard, its likely that the wiring out of that one isn't complete and besides it would have to be over 20 years old. Wires get bittle and they corrode on the inside after a while.
