Yea but I dont have a tach on the dash. Im saying why would the wire be there then?

Ask the GM designers.
Some diagnostic machines from then would use that plug.

Fairly certain that was the same piece between the cars too, which meant the Camaro's etc would have used it with tach. In the case of a single wire, and the same coil, probably cheaper to make (and install/stock) a billion of that style, than 100M of one and 900M of the other.
