Its easy to work it out when you just start dealing with one wire at a time. What i did was i dragged my computer connectors through the hole in the fire wall into the engine compartment and cut everything that went to or from those connectors. It left me with about 10 or 12 wires that i had no idea what to do with. Using a combination of wiring diagrams found on the internet (by googling stuff like "tbi wiring diagrams" and "tbi ecm pinout" etc.) and with help from memebers on this and other sites, i was able to sort out what to do with each wire, one by one. Some trial and error was also involved. For ecxample, i had a left over ground. I didnt know if it fed a ground, or recived it. So i left it un hooked. First time i took the ttruck up the road, the speedo didnt work. So, I hooked that ground up to ground, and just like that, the speedo started working again!
So, Research, ask for help, and do some trial and error. It becomes easy to handle as you are getting into it.
