Hi,
just found a NOS wiring harness.

The description says it's a 1988 Suburban ECM harness....
does this harness also fit my 84 6,2 or did they use some electronic add-ons on the 88 6,2s?
And what the means ECM? :crazy: :surepal: Engine compartment? (that may be a dumb question, I know :bow: but I really don't know?)

I think ECM stands for Engine Control Module. Those are used on gas engines not diesels. So some of it might work, but I'm not sure of what or how much. No help here...

ECM is the computer used in the newer TBI equipped trucks. I doubt it'd work for your 6.2...there would be so much that is superflous and un-needed.

damn! I'll ned to have that part number checked! The description says its a 6.2 Diesel ECM Harness for a 88 Suburban................... Maybe I should ask the seller if he could send me some more pics of the harness......
I've been searching for a new engine wiring harness for quite a while and it would be great if I finally get a NOS one ...
 
The seller got the part number checked by a Chevy dealership and they said it's an engine harness for a `88 Suburban with the 6,2 Diesel.
According to the pics he sent me, that's really an Engine harness for the 6.2l (green glow plug wires etc.)
 
Looks like that harness has weather tight (?) connectors. If you use that, you may have to change all the sensors to a newer models. Haven't actually seen any later 6.2 engine compartment closer, so I'm just guessing.

Now saw the other pics, deffinetly need for newer sensors.

Again a guess, but with ECM, I think that there are sensors for ECM itself, and for gauges. There just seem to be so much connectors, can't figure where all of them are plugged on older engines.

Well, I'd have to change my sensors anyway as they are not working at all :haha::wink1: If newer style sensors will fit my 1982 engine block is the next interesting question...

Your first post didn't mention it was for a 6.2 suburban...

The confusion is with the term "ECM" as the 88 Suburban with 6.2 didn't have any computer. None of the diesel's got computer engine management until 1994. That harness should be usable.

Looks like you could just upgrade the connectors where needed, like for oil pressure, water temp etc etc.

You betcha! :D The seller has a second one, maybe I'll get that one too (I'm thinking about reselling it in Europe as there are a lot of 6.2 s over here and parts are ususally quite expensive, especially rare parts like wiring stuff etc.)

I'm guessing that those connectors plug to ECM box.
 
1988 Subs have computers

Those connectors plug into a computer located behind the glove box. It controls EGR valve operation and transmission lock-up. That big round rubber disk plugs into the firewall.I know because I just replaced the harness in my 1990 which had fried( I knew diesels smoked but they are not supposed to smell like burned wire!).It looks identical.
