Ok so I'm in process of rewiring my 75 k5. Like many of the rigs in here, it's not stock, and also a mismatch of years. I have a 21 circuit ez wire harness I'm installing. I have also converted it to an nv4500 hydraulic clutch. Couple items I'm trying to figure out are
What clutch saftey switch should I be using I'm assuming what ever came factory on the trucks with hydraulic clutch?

I'm switching to a manual steering column. I would like to convert to the wipers on the stalk instead of the dash and also switch to a wiper system with intermittent wipers. Also want to hook up cruise control. I have basically a rebuild from my old 92 c1500 that I traded in, including stalk and the wiring and turn signal switch. Will this work with my blazer?

I have a pair of rigid flush mount dually lights on the back bumper. Right now just wired up to a switch. I would like to have them be used dual purpose. Come on with a switch and also come on in reverse. What is the best way to wire that up.

Not sure on most of these... but I can help with the last one:
Wire the lights to a relay, and then use 2 separate triggers on the 85 terminal (with diodes to prevent backfeeding). First trigger is the manual +12v switched, the second being a tap from the existing reverse light switch on the transmission. When either switch goes "on" it will turn on the lights. If you leave out the diodes it could turn on the reverse lamps whenever you hit the manual switch. Not 100% sure it would work that way, but best to isolate it and avoid the issue.

I like your ideas!
Now about the clutch safety switch. Do you really want it? No harm if you do, I have just been around trucks with them non-existent for decades, so I don't use one.
I don't know if you will like the mounting, or durability of the factory options for the '75, or the newer stuff. Maybe I am wrong. Use what mounts easily.
When you put the wipers on the turn signal lever, don't plan on changing to the newer bezel. The headlight switch moved when the wiper switch did ....
With the reverse lights, what I did with my '95 is to put LED's in the factory sockets, (even though they don't do much in these housings) and then I used a single pole, double throw switch. One terminal has full time power to it so that I can turn on the extra LED light below the bumper anytime. The opposite side has power from the reverse light circuit. There is a center off position.
This let's the factory fuse handle all 3 lights when I put it in reverse, but I can turn it on with the key off. An LED indicator can be added to CYA.
I think that you could integrate a relay, and let the switches control it with no problem.

For the clutch switch I kinda do want to have it installed because if I have someone drive it that isn't used to it I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have a lot of money in this pig and dont want it getting damaged or anyone getting hurt. The wire harness is requiring I hook up a switch or bypass it. I'd rather hook it up.
I was planning on keeping the bezel since I've all ready trimmed it to fit autometer gauges. I hate how crappy the wipers are right now. I was more wondering if the parts from the 92 chevy will be compatible with the square body parts. The columns seem to be identical but not 100%

The column might possibly work, I can't tell you. The wiper motor looks different than what the older trucks use, but I haven't had them side by side. You can install parts from a '91 and older for sure, just have to wire things with the correct plugs.

After thinking about this again: Im changing my answer. Use a SPDT switch and relay to control the bumper lights. In position 1 it triggers based on the reverse lights(transmission switch). In position 2 it triggers manually (+12V) Use the output of the SPDT switch to trigger the 85 terminal on the relay that powers the lights.

Something like this:

As long as your column is from a truck with wipers on the column, you can use it. I assume you don't have that, since you are asking.

ALL the later ones (car or truck) look like this: http://www.gmtiltsteeringcolumn.com/sitebuilder/images/88-94_truck_new_001-329x250.jpg

The big bulge on the drivers side is needed to accommodate the later turn signal switch, which contains the delay portion IIRC. Been a long time since I had to deal with it, but '84 or '85 was the cutoff. Before then, the column did not have a cutout on the drivers side for the plastic "bulge", that is an added piece. You can convert an older column to the newer "upper" components, and car ones can be made to fit, but nowadays, probably more likely to find a complete later truck column than it is to find a car piece, especially manual transmission, since Camaro's and Corvette's were it after 1982(?) for manual trans cars.

FYI!!!!

I too have a ez wiring 21 kit.. love it.. albeit I went with the black kit (stupid mistake)... service manuals say... light green goes to say temp sensor... well mine is black and every 12" says.. Temp sensor, Temp Sensor.. ughhhh whatta nightmare

fwiw - I highly recommend doing this. I don't have that done but is now on my list as my oldest son wants to drive it. I have a bypass and don't have one and years ago.. a bud was broke down. had my tailgate down and in front of him. I was going to start, back up so we could hookup and tow him home.. well I turned the key and 33's and 4:56's in R.. truck lunged back.. he put hand on his hood, my tailgate, lifted legs and my tailgate smashed his grill!!!! woulda broke his legs!!!! DOH 17 and stupid....

I used a fullsize jimmy steering column and now have wipers on the column, including high beams... when you get to it and need wiring help.. ill see if I can help...
love this as well!!!!!

wiring up with reverse, is to find the reverse wires and tie them in parallel... should be that easy, well if I was to do it....

^^^^ unfortunately I am part of the death of one fullsize jimmy... sad to think of it now..

$100 score...
I took the sm465 and hydro clutch stuff...

So something I just thought of. How are the reverse wires ran transmission to the column. Are they ran through the firewall and down the frame or are they ran down through the trans hump? Trying to make it factory looking.

Trying to keep all this in one thread to keep clutter down. Im in the process of doing the battery cables. I bought 1/0 cables to more or less future proof the electrical system. I'm installing a remote start solenoid as well. I want to know what guage wire should I use for the alternator back to the solenoid and if I need a fuse there. Currently its just a stock tbi engine alternator but will get upgraded to handle the electrical load in the future.

I think GM used 12 ga wire from the alternator to the solenoid,to the fusible links, and the firewall/fuse box feed..
It wouldn't hurt to go with a 10 or even 8 ga wire,so you wont have any issues later on if you upgrade to a higher amp alternator..
