well the other day i installed my new radiator at a friends shop, but one of the guys there accidentally backed over my fan shrowd while moving a car.... so i decided to get my windstar upgrade.

got the fans mounted and now im on to wiring... i want to fun a full manual system but was wondering about what amp relays and what gauge wire i should run...

any input would be appreciated..

ps i got the weatherproof connectors and whatnot so it should be relatively simple

thanks,
rick

I have seen quite a few people using the Windstar fans... Why? What is the benfit to them?

please if anyone has insight to my question post up, i have to pack for college, get these fans wired, and leave by friday AM

lets not hijack... but to answer your question, my truck ran at the same temp w/ only one of the two fans wired up in place of the stock clutch fan...
while wiring the second i shorted something and realized it needs to not be so bootyfabed.

ttt

please reply

I run 30A relays running 10 gauge wire for each fan. Right now, they are both wired to switches, but you can also wire one to a temp switch.

If you can easily find bigger relays, do it, the fans can pull as much as 60A during start up... so bigger is better, but 30s work fine

I believe factory wiring is also 10 gauge... might be 8... best bet would be to match what Ford did

Benefits of windstar fans also include:
A) less HP drain on motor
B) ability to shut down fan during water crossing

Cons of windstar fans include:
A) more alternator output required - a 63amp will not cut it (ask me how i know!)

ok so i will run 10ga i picked up today from the batt to the hot relay terminal, and from the relay to fans, from fans to (-) terminal, and would i be ok with 14 on the switch wiring?

i picked up some 40A relays so i will run these, i have 30A for spares.

yep, sounds good... you can even run smaller on the switches if you want, the wires carry milliamps, so anything bigger than like 20 gauge is cool

ok i figured out why i had a short the first time around.... the back of the package had an incorrect diagram, but there was a correct one inside, i didnt notice the first time when i followed the diagram on the back, but it had a stamp that said UPDATED DIAGRAM INSIDE

balls, i smoked that 40A relay but now i have the rightside fan on a 30A and the left on a 40A

works fine now
