Aug 18th.
We finally voted as a family to try a new trail! I have been wanting to go to Crystal Lake in the Tobacco Root Mountains for years! It is an old mining claim that has a lot of history, equipment, buildings, ghosts, open mines and a lot of beautiful mountains!
So here we go!
After finishing the headliner install on a customers truck, we left to the trail around 6:30pm. It took us 3 hours to drive to Crystal Lake of Wisconsin Creek.
When we got to the gate it was about 9:30ish and strapped on the packs and hiked about 150 yards to the north side of the lake. Still some light but for sure dark. The pics do not show how dark it was. We set up camp, ate and went to bed.
In the morning we explored the old mine claim… Just look at these awesome pics! Can you imagine living back then as a miner in 1911?
There was no fish in the lake. Trey was disappointed. After exploring the area, one of the off road groups I am in showed up around 2:30pm. The group did their exploring while we packed up camp.
After the group was done exploring and we were packed, we all drove down the trail a little and had a late lunch. 3 of us wanted to go to Jackson Lake, Sunrise Lake and the Twin Lakes which is A LOT more technical of a trail… But, with rain coming in the distance, we all split fast back down the trail and went home! At that elevation with rain, it can get very dangerous!
