WMS to WMS?

Bump...

I need some numbers on the WMS-WMS (wheel mount surface-to- wheel mounting surface) / 83-87 K5, front & rear.

Ayone have this spec?? How wide are the OEM axles?

Thanks in Advance

iirc, 69.5" in the front, and 67" in the rear.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for...not what I wanted to hear, lol...but it is what I needed to know, thanks again.

So hows that compare to 3/4 to dana 44 and 14 bolt from I beleieve a 74 truck?

I'm not sure about all Chevy dimension...but I once put a set of 76' 3/4T axles (14ff & D44 / 8 lug) into an 89 K5. PERFECT FIT. Zero mods were needed, everything bolted right up. You do need the u-bolts and top plates from the donar 3/4 ton. A testimony to standardization.

I'm using a set of D44's from a J10 full size Jeep truck...so, I have a little work to do. They are 64 1/2" WMS-WMS. I will either add tube and new axles to one side, or just use custom wheels with a 2" backspacing to create a decent fit.

I needed the off-set pumpkin of the J10 rear 44 to match the Dana 18 T-case I'm installing..:eek1: It's scheduled to be a purpose, deer hunting M1009. I will be flat towing a lot and nothing flat tows as well as the D-18. Moderate tires, moderate engine and nothing but muddy, Southern logging roads (read: NO ROCKS)

The Gen 1 K5's came with Dana 20 T-cases, and the 18 & 20 share the same case & internal gears....as did the original V8 Broncos, full size Jeep trucks, etc. So I know the steel, all geared case can handle moderate off-road duties in a full size vehicle...did I mention the flat tow, and the neat twin sticks?

I like both pumpkins in-line as well, if your dealing with muddy logging roads, you only have to plow one pumpkin ditch...the rear pumpkin follows in the ditch the front pumpkin made, smart. Maybe the original Jeep designers at Willys knew something we've forgotten? Oh, BTW...the spring under, ZERO wheel hop is as effective as it gets off-road..."considering" that old school design as well.

I have owned 7 Chevy 4x's and 2 CJ Jeeps....there's something good to be learned from them all.

Now I've really stirred the pot....:haha:
