Hey guys,

I searched for the death wobble, and didn't quite find the same symptoms I'm having, so here they are...

I installed a 3/4 ton front 10b axle in my truck, after running a 14b with no problems for a while. However, sometimes when I hit a dip or a bump on the street, I get a massive wobble in the front end until I manage to stop. It doesn't happen any other time.

Anyone know what might cause this? My knuckles have new ball joints, but the steering components to not. I reused my old stabilizer which worked fine before the swap. I'm also running without a sway bar, but I was without it before the swap as well.

Thanks,
Adam

i'd check the wheel bearings, like mentioned, and the ball joints. did you install them - or did the seller tell you they were new?

I repacked the bearings myself -- which is probably a could reason to check them again. :) Correct, I ran just a rear 14b around town until I got another front 10b with 8 lugs and the right gear ratio. All was fine before I installed the new 10b.

When installing the 10b, I did install the knuckles with new ball joints, but the rest of the steering system is using the old ball joints. I'll raise it off the ground and see if I can find anything loose.

Thanks

Is the steering arm different or is it the same as the previous axle?

I replaced my front axle. The steering arms were different. The different style steering arm changed the angle between the pitman arm and steering arm. The change of a few degrees jacked my steering up. No problems before, but major problems after.

I eventually went to crossover which solved all my bump steer problems.

It sounds just like what happened when I broke a chunk of the ball joint off of my heep. It felt like the tire was coming off on that side until you could stop. Tie rod and a new ball joint fixed my problem
