Does anyone know of a company that makes an adapter to fit a 208 out of an auto behind a 465? My friends t-case exploded and I will be getting this extra 208. His truck is a stick and this case is from behind an auto. I've heard of adapters like this for 205's before, but don't know where to look. Only place I can think of is advance adapters.

Which SM465? The 10 spline or the 32 spline? GM used the NP208 behind SM465's from the factory.

Not sure of that, I'll have to ask him. I know the 208's came behind a standard also, but like I said the one I will be getting is from behind an auto.

Yeah, the input shaft is the only difference in the transfer cases. They are quite simple to swap. I did one last year.

True so if you 208 is from a turbo 400 the splines should be the same.

If its from a 700 it will have 27 splines which will not match up to the 465

Not if his 465 is a 10 spline, he would then have to swap the output shaft of the trans to a 32 spline version.

GM never put a 208 behind a 10 spline 465.

I am well aware of that. That is why I asked him which SM465 he had, the 10 spline or the 32 spline. If he has the 10 spline SM465, then there is no adapter that I know of to mate the two. If he has a 32 spline SM465, then there is a GM adapter, and it is a simple deal.

Well the t-case he grenaded was a 208, so the one I am getting off a th400 will work, correct?

Work for what???

Make this easier for us please. What tranny/transfer case do you have currently? What transfer case are you getting? Do you also get the blown one for parts?

HE has a 1985 chevrolet silverado 1/2t short box 4x4. It has a 350,465 4-speed. The the t-case WAS a 208(now it is in pieces)with a slip yoke rear. I need to know if the 208 from behind a th400 will bolt to this or if there is anywhere to get an adapter so it will. It doesnt matter what is in my junk since it isn't my junk that is going to get worked on.

Yes it will bolt up.

if you would have stated this in the beginning, it would have been a lot simpler.
the 465 came in 10 and 32 spline versions.
the 208 came in 27 and 32 spline versions.
it seems you got lucky and have a 32 spline 465 and 32 spline 208. should be a direct replacement.

I will give more descriptive info for you guys, sorry. Sometimes when you think something makes sense to you and you've described it well enough, people still look at you like a tool. I know, sorry all. Thanks for the help it is appreciated.

Well this whole plan is shot to hell now! I went to pick up the good 208 from my buddy and when I got there, it had mysteriously transformed itself into a 203! Damn, he is a knowlegeable chevy guy too! Oh well, at least now I won't have to tear down the 203 from behind my th350 for it to work with a th400. When I swap tranny's I can leave the th400 and 203 together and just swap everything over.
