So I finally get to putting the new sm465 np205 combo in my 88 k5 and now it wont start. It ran fine before I pulled the other trans. Now it will crank for a second or two then bog down as if the battery is dead. The battery is fine and I even hooked it up to my other truck with jumpers and it did the same thing. It doesn't look like I pinched any wires. Any clues cause im in the dark on this one. Thanks

Are you sure that the clutch is lined up properly? Are you sure that the transmission is not stuck in two different gears at once?

I didn't take the clutch out when i changed the trans. And unless something is wrong inside the trans it should be in neutral

Pull the shifter, look into the transmission, if the trans is in neutral the 3 shift rails should look like a rectangle pocket [ ] with a sort pin ball in the left rail [o ], If the rails aren't lined up, it could be in 2 gears( although not sure if I have ever seen that happen......). Tale a long screwdriver and shift them back to the center.

Yea. It didn't feel like it went into low all the way but its always dicey going into low since its not syncrod

My truck was recently doing this. Does it do it in neutral or are you trying to start the truck in gear with the clutch in?

Cause when my hydro clutch went with the pedal down it was still half engage and wrecking my battery. When I would try to crank it.

Im starting I neutral. I didn't re bleed the yclinder after reconnecting it to the bellhousing. I never took any lines off I just unbolted it

Hmmm ok. Pull the shifter like they said. Also double check your battery connections and the connections on the starter.

Any chance you pulled a dummy move and forgot to tighten up the wire on the starter and your getting an arch and a bad connection?

Any ground wires (chassis or otherwise) disconnected during removal?

I had a two wheel drive 465 in there with re originally intentions of putting a divorcet case in but I was advised to stick with the mated version. It sounds like it is bogging the starter down. The first thing that came to my head wa something was binding but I would think that it still had enough in it to turn over. It cranks for a few seconds before it starts to bog down

Also, check the battery cables to see if they're hot to the touch. Maybe a loose connector, bad ground or..? :dunno:
