I may need to go over to the 67-72 site, but figured I would ask here first.

I need to replace at least two of the boards in the bed of my truck. Even though this is a good looking truck I still use it as it was intended, so I don't need show quality. Is there a off the shelf dimensional lumber I can use? Maybe even something that will work after a quick run through the table saw or a pass with a router? Honestly, I haven't even pulled any of the strips so I don't even know the rough size.

Second question. I want mount a tool box to the bed floor. Anything I can do to prevent rotted wood and rusted metal where they parts touch? Or are the metal strips between the boards enough to keep air moving through there?

I really don't know anything about the wood beds and was curious, so I did a little reading. It looks like guys just put about anything they want in there.

I was thinking oak at first, but there are some cool woods like Ipe and cypress that would be neat.

Anyways, it looks like the wood dimensions for the bed are 5 1/2 x 3/4"x length. You can pick oak, pine and Maple up at depot in that dimension and just cut to length. :dunno:

Here is what I found.

I like the idea that was in your link about using Brazilian ipe, that sounds like a perfect wood for this application. The big headache is the boards are 3 different widths, and only the narrow ones are less than 6" wide. I'm going to see what the depot has in stock.

I did find the dimensions and it looks like the cuts would be pretty easy to make on a table saw. If I can find some reasonably priced lumber I'll just go that route. If anyone else needs them:

I considered that. Was it just one full sheet cut out for the wheel tubs? Or do you have a step side?

I had an 86 step side, but I imagine you could use two full sheets and cut around the wheel wells. I had a 78 with a rusted out floor and did this.

The '71 K10 Suburban 4x4 I had ,came with a factory marine plywood floor...
It was about the only part of the truck left that had any structural integrity,in fact,it was still like new...looked like they laminated it with fiberglass resin and coated it with it..it was a bear to cut up!..
