Finally made me one like I wanted - old school sticking out there like a work bench

Also, if the truck is lifted and/or you are fat and old and inflexible like me, it's a handy leap up to work on the truck.

I have an old Warn winch bumper -- with no winch! -- on my towrig for that very reason. It makes an already long truck stupidly long, but it's a handy seat/step -- and as you say, workbench :haha:

Yours is nicer than mine though :D

Do you have a camera around my house? I am fat and old and inflexible and the blazer fenders come up to my nipples and I am 6'4". I do get a nice rubbing on the fender though...

I am thinking about welding up a small ladder that folds under the bumper. I once HAD to adjust the idle in the middle of a Sears parking lot by standing on the hub - never again. I now have something to perch on.

I'll let y'all know if the winch holds up. 17,500 lbs

I'd really like to see a pic of your 74 C30 crewcab. Been looking for a nice one off and on for a few years.

Oh, well, I am the king of pic whores...

And the bumper, in an earlier configuration with the tire mount up front.

Sweetbabychocolatedippedjeezus, I love that truck.

LOL, thanks. I have a love-hate relationship with it, depending on how much hassle it's being at any given time. There's been a lot of blood, sweat & tears gone into it.

Hold up just a minute.

We both have camo, racks, one tons (ok I had to make mine), tires on top, I am about to build a tire rack off my back bumper, winch bumpers that stick out, fat and old, and I'm sure neighbors that say, "He parked that ugly mother on the rode again..."

We must have been brothers in a past life. Or at the very least you have some redneck in you too.

Educate me on the dually. That is the second one I have seen that has both rears tucked under instead of sticking out with the extra fender over it. Was this an option or just the way they were built in some years?

I have been looking for a crewcab 74 to 79 single rear wheel but I would rather have a dually if they are tucked. I have very little room between the house and the fence to get down the driveway. I could get a dually through there but my son may get tired of spotting me every day. Can't park on the road, I currently have to hide from the HOA.

fenders on outside = wide drw axle and factory setup.

no fenders on outside and tires sucked in = non factory setup .

this is done with a cab and chassie ( c&c ) rear axle from a dump truck /flatbed/work truck with tool box . its the narrowest axle of the rears.

Not my style but it looks well done. The tube work looks nice and symmetrical.
What about that winch mount though, I believe a winch of that size really should be mounted feet forward.

Well, I was born here in CA, but was voted an honorary Texan by a passel of Southerner coworkers for my correct usage of "y'all" vs "all y'all."

The camo is actually 'cuz I spray-painted it. When I got the truck it was Aaron's Amazing Technicolour Pickemup Truck:

You rattle-can a truck ONE color, it looks like crap. You rattle-can it camo, doesn't matter how bad you do, people think it's cool :dunno:

Anyway, as noted and as you can see from the "before" pic, it's not factory. I did it, and it's one of those things I might not do again, given the chance to do it over. The loss of turning radius and the reduced with between the wheel wells may not be worth the cool factor.

That's a hell of a lumber/roof rack, btw. I dig it -- with the right sling I think you could carry a Prius up there :haha:

Front part of the rack from the windshield forward is removable. I only put it on when getting steel or lumber.

On the winch that is good to know. The instructions for the winch said go with either even though I too thought it needed to go forward. I did put 1x1x3/16 square tube between the front plate and the winch and pushed it against them for something to push against. The winch had flat spots on the steel casing. It SHOULD work the same, but I can easily do the feet forward just by drilling the holes.

I could put a smart car up on the rack in case of break down

My 12,500lb'er is mounted feet down and I never had an issue. At what point are you suppose to mount it feet forward?

I've always heard/read 10k is a good rule of thumb. 12k and up for sure though.
