I am a fairly tall guy....and I still can't get to the center of the engine bay to get to the plug wires and carb and stuff

What do you use to get in there when you need to?

I tried one of those two step folding ladders and it folded up on me when I leaned in....

I'm about 6'1 and 300 LBs, and I just crawl in and sit on the fender, depending on how serious the work is, the hood may or may not be on.

I use a two step ladder to get a foot on the front bumper and usually just sit on the radiator with one foot in the engine bay on the fender and one foot on the bumper.

This is what I do as well, but I haven't removed the hood.

Started using the 2 step "ladder" thing to get up on the core support though, the stock bumper is too slippery if it's the slightest bit wet, had enough close calls to decide to do something before something bad happened.

One of those tire step things looked cool, but not sure if I'd then be bending over TOO much.

Ditto... Except no ladder, I have grip tape on the top of my bumper to prevent slipping

I picked up a Warner step ladder deal with folding legs on each side. It has a plank in between the small extensions and is perfect for me to work on my Blazer with a 6" lift.
I picked it up at Lowe's a few years ago on Black Friday for $30!

I just stand on my front bumper......:dunno:
