I've been having a popping noise in 4wd, its not the driveshaft, sounds like it's in the front dif. on the right side. I pulled the dif. cover off today and saw some pretty glittery sparkles come out in the fluid. I looked at the gears, look good, spider gears, look good. Bearings look ok, may need replaced soon. But I was playing with the axle shaft. I would move it back and forth and it looks like it has play in the carrier on the P-side, but not on the d-side. Is there supposed to be play in the inner axle shaft in the carrier? I have a good feeling the splines are worn on that shaft and am about to pull the whole p-side off if it looks that way.
