Well after dumping over $500 into my $550 91 blazer. Well first off i got it and it wouldnt start/turn over... After 3 weeks of hardcore diagnosing and labor I finally got to the dmv and went through inspection and emissions were just about perfect. So I get a temp-tag (since the fuel tank wasnt holding pressure) and get it on on the road.. the NEXT DAY I was driving along up a hill and it downshifts and its in a lower gear for a few seconds then all the sudden in the middle of traffic it makes pops and shuts off.. SO I get it to the shoulder somehow and I have transmission fluid pouring out from the hole in the transfer case. Now it wont restart and its leaking transmission fluid all over... I did not even have the truck on the road for more than 48 hours and it blows up... just my luck! I dont know what I want to do... This SUCKS!

Yeah that sucks. I went on a very expensive trip for two weeks with no work and come back and on the way to work my trans goes out. Two months later in December I finished the rebuild and swapped that one in. Now the truck won't start. Got that fixed and drove to work. Drove home, wrecked it.
Fixed it and got it going again to daily drive and wheel. Drove it to work a few days and took it to muddfest to try out the new parts, blew the motor. That was in march.
Now it's in my driveway three years later almost finished!
Trans still works! I've driven my truck for 5k miles since '09.

You'll live.

When I bought my Jimmy ($4400), I had it for about a week before the engine blew up (hence my screen name). :doah:

Bought a new motor for it and was just gonna swap it in but then I shattered my wrist riding an ATV and the build got halted for a year. During that year I got hooked on here and decided to collect a bunch more parts. Put them all on, went wheeling twice, broke a hub (fancy expensive Teralow hub) and destroyed an inner axle seal somehow.

Tore it apart with intent to build a cage and a new tranny tunnel, screwed up royally on them. :doah:Now all the gauges have decided to quit working other than the fuel gauge, the speedo cable went bad...... all sorts of quibbles. I didn't have a job for a while and had to sell the front and rear bumpers and rock sliders to be able to pay bills.

Now it's been sitting in my garage for almost two years in its tore up naked condition. I have owned it since 2007 and have put 3000 miles on it and 2 wheeling trips. :doah:

Anyways, could be worse, you could be as dumb as me!!! :D

Good luck bro!!! :thumb:

$550 gets you just about what you got
around here, it wouldn't come with a motor or trans for that price. At least you have cores :)

but I admit, the bodies are always rust free

Actually, so far this does not sound too bad, maybe.
What hole is the fluid pouring out of ?

If its a drain or fill hole, find a plug and put it in.
If its the vent hole, you probably have a bad seal between the transfer case and the transmission..Fixable.
If its a new hole, then we have a problem. Still fixable, just more trouble.

Unlikely that the engine quitting was related to the leak, unless something froze up in the drivetrain and stalled the engine.

The engine quitting may have done you a favor by keeping you from burning up your transmission from lack of fluid.

Take a good hard look at everything, maybe some pics, and lets do a diagnosis before you start worrying.

Right on! Except here there'd be rust too! (Not as much as up north though by any means)

This is a easy fix....I see your location is Delaware....Get it towed to my house....Leave the keys in it....Walk away.....Problem solved.:D
