Seen these for sale locally for $150,was wondering if they have enough backspacing to clear the tie rod ends and calipers on a square body 3/4 ton ?..anyone using them ?..dodge 8 lug rims.jpg

I have not run the aluminum ones , but have steel second gen rims on my 74 k20 with no issues

I know that H2 wheels have to have the center bore enlarged to fit on 2500’s so that would lead me to believe the centers are larger so that part shouldnt be an issue. Backspacing wise, i would think it would work, i think the chevy dodge and fords (prior to going metric) all have very similar sizes and backspacing.

The ad didn't state what year they came off,I'm thinking 2000 or newer--it did say they were 8 lug, bolt pattern 6.5","do your own research to see if they will fit your truck"..
If I could pull a wheel off my truck at his house and try them on first I'd be tempted to buy the 4 of them, two have tires that will pass for a sticker, the other two are bald, but I don't have $150 to gamble they "might" fit....they are in the next town over..
Things sell fast on FB marketplace though, they might not be there tomorrow..I don't have to have them, but my steel rims are getting pretty rusty inside on the bead lip and I could use a few tires..

No. However they have a lot of backspacing - like 5-6” or so. My money is on they wouldn’t clear the TRE or drag link.

I called a local salvage yard and talked to one of the guys I know who is pretty well versed in what parts will swap, and he said he doesn't know of any later model(2000 + up) truck 8 lug rims that would have both the right backspacing or the right lug pattern to work on an old square body like mine--no 17" ones that would fit and work without using spacers either...

So I guess I'll be saving myself $150 by passing on those rims & tires..:surepal:

The 16” GM 8 lugs will work. They only have 4-4.5” or so of backspacing. I had a set from a 2007 GMC on Bug Ugly.

That's good to know..at least there is something "newer" that will work..it's getting tougher to find any "original" rims that are any good around here now..salvage yards that had a thousand on racks started crushing them when scrap went up to $250 a ton a few years ago, along with all the square body trucks..they mostly only keep things newer than 2000 or so now..

I was really hoping to find some 17" rims if I have to replace my existing 16" ones,I have 4 decent 245/75/17 B F Goodrich TA tires that are E load range I'd like to use,but other than H2 Hummer rims that need the centers hogged out to work,(and are quite expensive around here),there isn't any other ones I can use ...guess I may as well sell them..my truck isn't worth paying big bucks for new rims or hummer ones ..

Those Dodge 16" rims were tempting being alloys rather than steel, but I don't really "need" aluminum ones..or 16" ones for that matter, but they seemed reasonably priced..you rarely see any 8 lug rims around here in salvage yards or online for sale really, the few you do find used are usually no better than what I already have,if they aren't rusted, they are bent...

Pure speculation on my part but I would bet the newer 17 inch eight lug wheels that GM has used since the late 2000’s would work also. I don’t think the backspacing or anything changed other than the wheel diameter.

They "might" fit without rubbing, but I have yet to find any that I can try on my truck first ,before paying for them..also the newer rims need those special lug nuts with external threads to hold the center caps on,and the nuts are metric--my truck has 9/16" lug studs..

Any "newer" rim at salvage yards run $50+ each around here, and most likely wont have the center caps included too..might as well just stick with stock rims,I'll keep my eyes peeled for any on craigslist or FB marketplace that might be free or cheap locally--they do pop up once in a while..
