im looking to upgrade my charging system b/c im gonna be getting a winch/stereo system....right now i have to rev my motor to get my windows to go up in a reasonable time as it is( alt is craP!!!!) so i figured i may as well get a high output one and dual optimas.....so, first things first...do i have a 10 or 12 series alt??? it's on a new GM crate, not sure what it was out of originally b/c the motor that was in my truck was out of some car(2bolt main) but the truck is an 83.

here you go...can i use this??...

thanks guys!!! oh yeah, i have to upgrade the wiring also right????

Go to autozone and get a Pontiac Transport minivan alt from the early 90's with rear AC. They are rated for 140amps and Azone will give you a lifetime warranty on it most likely. Change the pulley and splice a new pigtail on your harness and go. Also when you change to a big dawg alt. you may have to upgrade some of your wiring to handle the extra power the alt now pushes out.

We installed that alt in my buddies truck and started to use his winch and it started to fry some of his wiring.

Wire the alt to directly charge the battery and wire a heavier gauge wire to power the incab pass through. There is one othe wire in that system somewhere we redid to to a heavier gauge.

well, the reason i ask is because i did get a transport alternator...and the bolt holes didn't line up correctly. i picked it up at a pick n pull for 25bucks. that's why i wanted to go with this one on ebay. also, he sells upgraded wiring for an extra 25bucks or soo too....so about 140 for an alt and wiring ain't bad in my opinion. thanks guys!

Bite the bullet and buy a Powermaster. You'll be glad you did. Trust me. An my friend...and my other friend...and my other friend.........you get the picture. We've all been there. None of us wanted to spend $140. We were all glad we did.
