i found a 98 z71 extended cab runs and drives...vortec motor sounds ok 189,XXX miles..push button 4x4 works....3rd door......guy says he has had it for 3 yrs as a farm truck...he says he got it from his boss about 3 yrs ago...he got a newer truck from boss and he parked this 98z71 and says his boss never gave him a title and told him he could have the 98 to do whatever he wants w/it and he asked about the title and his boss told him he had no idea where it was at....

he's willing to write me out a bill of sale w/ his name and trucks vin on it for me...i've been told in arkansas you can buy a 10 yr old vehicle w/o a title and bring bill of sale and were you've added it to your personal property to the dmv and you can apply for a lost title...i just worried it come back in his boss's name and i have a bill of sale w/ the farm managers name on it ..if they would let me get a lost title w/his name on bill of sale...or would i be better off trying to say i bought it w/o a title broken and get a salvage title.

what would you do?

oh yea....$800 for it...bodys straight looks like undercarriage has never been washed and used in the mud, but its a running driving 98 z71.

If that guy knows the guy he bought it from, he can request a duplicate title. Or he can do a title transfer. I would do it the legit way, too sketchy for me.

yea, see thats the thing, he didn't buy it, it was given to him as a work truck, just like the 04 duramax he just got...his boss/farm owner just bought a new 08 or 09 and every1 traded trucks down the line, 3 trucks changed hands as they all swapped to newer trucks...leaving this 98 not used anymore...and the farm owner/rich sob would just as soon let the 98 sit behind the shop forever before he lets it bother him, i know the foreman and he said the farmer told him he didn't care what he does w/the 98. i'm torn about messin w/it....but, man its a complete running drivable 98 lwb z71

i was wondering if a used car lot could help me or maybe even have a form for just such this kinda case.

Screw that. Why take the chance and end up in jail for something you didn't do. I didn't know it was stolen from Mexico, Sir. :eek1:

No title, no sale. It's easy enough to get the guy to get you a new one. There is a form but it must be signed by the legal owner requesting a title.

Get the form from the MVD for duplicate title. Give it to the farm worker and have the farmer sign it. You do the leg work and you take it into MVD. They may not release the title to you in hand but they'll mail him the title so in a few days everything is legal and all the farmer has to do is go to the post office and pickup the title. Done deal!

I would say call your DMV and ask them what the rules and regs are for something like this. Then, just do what ever they suggest.

I would take the VIN # and bill of sale to your local courthouse/tax collector. Being in Arkansas they should be willing to give you some good advice on what you can do w/o getting the farmer too involved. Although if the truck is not registered to him and instead to his farm it will be a whole nother situation. The DMV's in the south are a real pain in the you know what so I would avoid them if at all possible.

idk, I lived in Alma Arkansas for a while and the DMV near there (I think it was in Van Buren, can't remember) was awesome, like I didn't even mind going there cause the people were so nice and helpful..

plus one of the desk girls was gorgeous :o

I'd just go talk to them and see what they tell you. It might not be all that hard, just a signature or two..

..now I have to deal with california dmv's...

I bought my rig like this.... If the guy can produce some sort of document saying the guy on the title gave it to him or sold it to him your good. As long as it's not reported stolen cops can't do anything. Might want to see if you can get the VIN and plates run at your local PD. If they're clean then I say do it.

i went and looked at it and tried to start it, but it wouldn't start, he claims while messing w/the short on the fuel pump weather-pac plugs, he had the pump pulled out and it rained, getting water in the tank. he swears the truck ran several days later then it started to stumble and died, he said he thinks the fuel lines are full of water, but i've been told that before and after buying the truck/car, i find something really wrong, so i'm hesitant to get it, as someones word doesn't carry much weight to me when it comes to telling me the condition of a vehicle...he called me this morning & dropped the price to $500! he said the police in the little town he lives in have put a warning ticket for 1 week to get it running or moved off his front lawn.

not sure what to do now. i really need that, ''what would you do'' answer now! ya'll think i could get 500 bucks out of it by parting it out? i want the 5.7 vortec out of it, and the front seat, but not much else, maybe the dash to swap it in my 69 k5 thats goin 2wd and being a 98, the passenger side air bag spot is perfect for a lcd screen...the set of vortec heads would cost more than $500, if bought new. decisions decisions

i would buy it for 500. you could easily get the motor out and redone. the rest people are going to want if you part out. center console, doors, hoods, etc. you know....i think you just listed plenty of reasons to buy it.

If you're parting it out do you need the title?

10-4.

You could make a grand or more real easy if you put the time in to part it out. If he does have the title then I say drive it.

put my time in?.... i always let them take it off...i do need the passenger ff, bumper & valance for my 96...maybe keep those unitized front bearings & axles for myself also!
