I managed to round off the head of one of the bolts that holds the tranny to the engine when I was trying to take it off. It also happens to be the hardest one to get to. (top pass side). Now I am not quite sure what to do.. There always seems to be a hang up in my projects.

Any ideas?

Not sure how that will work.. With the lift and everything our hoist is not tall enough. Just the engine is one thing, but both would be too much.

Get a leveler bar and you should be able to do it. Pain in the ars though.
Or start pulling body panels off?

How about a hamster with powerful laser beam mounted to its head?

Or if that doesn't pan out, what about one of those dremel snakes with a cutoff wheel on the end?

Unbolt tranny from the tranny mounts and put a jack under the front of the engine (support the back of tranny with something) and you might be able to make more room as well.

I don't know what they are called, but the parts store I do business with has a set of sockets that are made to grab a rounded off bolt head in the ccw direction. They are a little different than the sockets that hold the flats of a bolt head, but same concept. The dremel idea sounds good too! Lots of fun with the 13 extentions and the wobbley knuckle to get on that bolt. I'll be doing the same soon for the fourth time in less than a year. Good Luck!

I know what you're talking about. I got a set of them from autozone for like $20 or something. They're threaded on the inside to grab the bolt and work well. I've used them for rounded lugs on quite a few rusted vehicles.

Thanks for the replys guys. But as it turns out I am just an idiot. Having two sets of hands and eyes helps ALOT. My dad got here and we got it out. It was gripping but when I could get a rachet on it the socket would tilt off. I jacked the motor up some and you could see it from the top. It wasnt messed up enough yet. :D

Oh and it is a graceful act leaving a 203 bolted up to the tranny and pulling them both at the same time. We had a tranny jack under the 350 with a rachet strap, and a floor jack under the 203, it was balanced alright but leaning slightly to the drivers side and when we bottomed out the tranny jack we had to do something because it was too high to get out. (I had to put a block on top of the jack and took the wheels off the truck.)

So either way I had to undo the strap, So my dad says get on the side its leaning away from and undo the strap and look out. So i hit the release and the whole works does a flip and lands upside-down off to the side of the truck.:eek1: So I ran over there and somehow managed to flip it over and we were done for the night!

Long story short, waiting for help is good. And neither of us were killed or injured in the process. Now I just have to pull the engine. But that should go a bit smoother seeing as how there is not a fat transfercase hanging off of it to make it hard to balance.

Next time- remove the tranny hump and use your hoist through the passenger door. The only way to go....

We have a huge A frame hoist so Im not sure that would work. :doah:If I had just taken the case off it would not have been bad because we have the tranny jack. I just didnt want to mess with the 203 by itself.
