So I've been chasing this coolant leak on my K5 for a couple months. I just got the rig rebuilt and running back in March, and I've had this coolant leak I couldn't find. I thought it was my radiator cap, I tried 3 of those, I thought my overflow tank was too small, I tried a bigger one, then I tried routing the overflow tube far away from that area. Still had a slight weep under pressure. I removed the fans and some other stuff so I could see in there, and finally found the radiator itself was leaking, where several tubes were entering a side-tank. Radiator is a Flex-a-lite all aluminum version. I liked flex-a-lites because they have the t-channel side tanks and with the tilt front clip, it's hard to mount tanks and mount the rad itself the way that front clip tilts forward and all.
I bought the radiator in Mar of 2007 and flex-a-lites warranty is 1 year. (was a radiator fan combo gig)...I fitted it, then put it in it's box and it didn't got back in the truck and filled until this past March. I got about 1000mi on it now. The bummer was, that thing was darned expensive. I thought, well, I could buy a new one and then send this one back as warranty and at least I'd have 2 even though I'd pay for 2, but that's playing games and mabey there's a datecode on it somewhere, plus how much value is a radiator in a box that I get to store for XX years. So, I figured, well, I'm just gonna call them up and see if they'll do anything. I told them the story, told I bought it 5 years ago and I knew it was out of warranty...he asked for a receipt and then said they'd send me out a new one.
Wow, I was floored. That just doesn't happen very often in life, at least mine. That's backing up your product. Kudos to Flex-a-lite !!!!
